Finlayson Roofing & Guttering - a reality check

Finlayson Roofing & Guttering - a reality check This describes work done on our home by Finlayson Roofing & Guttering. Let potential clients beware. We had a plan so what could go wrong?

Storms cause water to flood into our electricity meters and switchboard. We
found a way to stop this with some flashing and some extra guttering etc. Christian Finlayson, that's what! Unbelievable is an understatement.

The video tells the story in a logical manner.

I have never before seen a workman care less about his work or so careless about not caring.

The problem is that over a third of the roof area drains into three metres of gutter with only one way out. It flows directly at the corner where the gulley is badly constructed. The nearest (only) downpipe is over seven metres and two corners away. Add the flow to the downpipe from the other direction and half the roof drains to this one downpipe. The outlet to the street is an 80mm pipe. It's a recipe for repeated disaster. Call in the professionals! They all had two things in common - none wanted to hear my analysis of the problem and none mentioned (knew of?) the Australian Standard which set out the solution for just this problem. At least I knew one of the two.

This shows how close the troublesome corner of the guttering is to our electrical installations. The holes in the soffit are a previous owner's attempt to drain the water. The spouts were my try. When there is a downpour we watch the water spurt out of these, knowing that water is high enough to overflow into the soffit over the gulley's edge.
