Meet my latest property styling project in Zillmere.

For this home, the brief was all about showing buyers just how much potential was already here.

Beautiful natural light, generous living spaces and warm timber floors gave us the perfect starting point. From there, we layered in soft neutrals, charcoal and blue tones, natural timber and greenery to create a home that feels fresh, welcoming and ready to live in.

But one of the biggest parts of this transformation was the layout.

We wanted buyers to immediately understand how the spaces could work — where you could gather around the dining table, settle into the living room, enjoy a quieter second living space and retreat at the end of the day.

Because property styling isn’t about filling a house with beautiful furniture.

It’s about helping buyers see the home differently. See the possibilities. And imagine themselves living there.

And Zillmere is officially ready for her next chapter.

Here’s how I create a vision for a room… and it’s probably not quite as simple as finding a bunch of beautiful things. 🤍

I start with the overall feel.

A colour palette.
Inspiration.
The key furniture pieces.
Texture and layers.
Then those smaller styling pieces that bring personality and life into the room.

But the magic isn’t really in any one of those things.

It’s in connecting them.

Making sure the colours speak to each other. That the furniture works with the proportions of the room. That there’s enough contrast, texture and interest. That the styling pieces add something rather than simply filling a space.

Because you can have a room full of beautiful things and still feel like something isn’t quite right.

Creating the vision is about seeing how all those individual decisions will eventually come together as one.

And I think that’s often the part people find the hardest — not necessarily finding things they love, but knowing how to connect them.

That’s where I come in. ✨

A common styling mistake? Buying individual things you love without thinking about how they work together.

You love the sofa.
You love the rug.
You love that artwork.
And those cushions were too good to leave behind.

Individually? Great choices.

Together? Somehow the room still doesn’t quite feel right.

This is why having a vision before you start buying can make such a difference.

Your vision gives you the overall direction — how you want your home to feel, the colours you’re drawn to, the style, materials and pieces that suit the way you live.

But there’s another part that can be a little trickier…

Finding the links between everything.

It might be a colour repeated subtly across a few pieces.
A timber tone that connects one area to another.
Shapes that speak to each other.
A texture that appears again somewhere else.
Or simply getting the balance, scale and proportions right.

Those little connections are what make a collection of things you love feel like a whole room.

And this is often the point where clients come to me.

They usually have a pretty good idea of what they like. They might even already own some beautiful pieces.

They just need help finding the thread that pulls it all together.

Because styling isn’t about filling your home with things that all “match”.

It’s about creating enough connection that everything feels like it belongs - while still feeling like you.

Before I start styling a property, I’m not just thinking about what furniture will fit.

I’m looking at the whole picture — the home, the buyer, the photography, the marketing and most importantly, how we want someone to feel when they walk through the door.

Here are 5 things I look at before styling a property:

1. Highlight the property’s best features
Every home has something worth drawing attention to. It might be the natural light, generous living space, beautiful flooring, high ceilings or the connection to outdoors. The styling should help those features shine — not compete with them.

2. Make it photo ready
For most buyers, the first inspection happens online. Layout, scale, colour, contrast and those finishing layers all need to translate beautifully through the camera as well as in person.

3. Bring all the feels
People don’t just buy bedrooms and bathrooms. They buy into how a home makes them feel. Warm, relaxed, elevated, family-friendly, calm, impressive — whatever suits the property, I want that feeling to come through.

4. Tell a story
Styling helps buyers understand how they could live there. Where they’ll have their morning coffee. Where the family gathers. How an awkward corner could actually become a beautiful little reading spot. Those details help create connection.

5. Connect the marketing and the home
The styling shouldn’t feel separate from the way the property is being presented to market. The photography, listing, target buyer, agent’s campaign and styling should all be telling the same story.

Because property styling isn’t about filling a house with nice things.

It’s about creating a clear, considered picture of what life in that home could look like.

I’m a stylist. But that’s really only one little part of who I am.

Sometimes social media makes us look very one dimensional.

You see the installs, the cushions, the before + afters, the client projects and the business.

But behind all of that, I’m a mum. A homebody. A tea drinker. A small business owner who has had some incredible seasons and some bloody hard ones. Someone who loves to bake, loves a good laugh, occasionally overthinks everything and is still figuring out what she wants the next chapter to look like.

And actually, all those pieces probably explain my approach to styling more than any qualification or perfectly worded bio ever could.

I believe in homes that are beautiful and lived in.
Businesses that can evolve.
Starting again when you need to.
And creating a life and a home that actually feel like you.

The Ginger Stylist might be my business.

If I see another completely white and beige property on the market, I might scream. 😂

There. I said it.

Somewhere along the way, “appeal to a broad market” started to mean remove every ounce of personality from a home.

Light. Bright. Neutral. Safe.

And sometimes… a little bit boring.

Don’t get me wrong — there is absolutely a place for a beautiful neutral palette. But neutral doesn’t have to mean boring.

Property styling is about creating a home buyers can see themselves living in. And to do that, it needs to make them feel something.

A little colour.
An interesting piece of art.
Texture.
Contrast.
Something unexpected.
Those little details that give a room life and make someone stop scrolling.

You can absolutely style for broad market appeal without making every property look exactly the same.

Because buyers aren’t just buying four walls and a floor plan.

They’re buying into the idea of what life could feel like there.

And personally? I think that deserves a little personality.

Because the best property styling isn’t about making buyers fall in love with the furniture.

It’s about making them fall in love with the property. 🤍

The styling is simply there to help them see it.

To understand how the spaces could work.
To notice the features that make the home special.
To imagine their life unfolding there.
And to create that feeling when they walk through the door and think… this could be home.

That’s always my goal when I style a property for sale.

Not to overpower the home.
Not to follow a cookie-cutter formula.
But to use styling to bring out the very best in the property itself.

Because ultimately, it’s the home we want them to fall completely in love with. ✨

This one deserved one last little moment on the grid… because SHE SOLD! 🏡✨

And I’m especially happy about this one because it was genuinely one of my favourite installs so far.

There was just something about the finished space — the warmth, the contrast, the layers and the way it all came together to show off what this home could be.

That’s always the goal with property styling.

Not to simply fill a home with beautiful furniture, but to help buyers see the potential, feel the lifestyle and imagine themselves living there.

And now this beautiful home gets to start its next chapter with new owners. 🤍

A lovely result for my clients — and definitely an install I’ll be keeping in the favourites folder for a while.
