We’re thrilled to share that Labouré Library at St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School has been shortlisted for the Australian Library Design Awards 2026 in the School Library category.

This adaptive reuse project celebrates the importance of sustainability, reimagining an existing building to create a contemporary library that supports learning, curiosity and community - while treading lightly on the environment.

The project was a true collaboration, and we’re incredibly grateful to have worked alongside Paul Mitchell and Erin Power from St Catherine’s, as well as Brisbane Catholic Education and Pagewood Builders, to bring the design to life.

It’s an honour to have this work recognised by the judging panel, and a proud moment for everyone involved.

Recently, members of the Macksey Rush team traveled up to Rockhampton again to present the final design development to the St Joseph’s Cathedral Renewal Taskforce. A stimulating and energetic workshop followed, delivering strong outcomes for the Sanctuary Renewal. We’re honoured to be entrusted with such a significant legacy project and grateful for the opportunity to help shape its future.

Earlier this month, we had the immense privilege of attending the official opening of Margaret Rice Place.

The building was formally opened and blessed by His Grace, Archbishop Mark Coleridge, who then toured the Quarry Street campus alongside Dr Michael Carroll and The Hon. John-Paul Langbroek, Minister for Education and the Arts.

Named in honour of Margaret Rice, mother of Blessed Edmund Rice - a woman whose strength and spirit helped shape Edmund’s transformative mission.

It’s been an honour to work with St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace over the past three years on this visionary project - creating a space that embodies legacy, purpose, innovation, and sustainability.

Thank you to all our project partners for bringing this to life.

A heartfelt thank you to St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, Wishart, for the beautiful celebration and blessing of the new Labouré Library!
It has been a joy for Macksey Rush to collaborate with a passionate and visionary school leadership team, supported by Brisbane Catholic Education.
This adaptive reuse project reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and Laudato Si—refurbishing and extending an existing building to create a vibrant, uplifting space for the entire school community.
The Labouré Library is more than just a building; it is a calm refuge that celebrates reading, reflection, and learning—a true sanctuary for curiosity and growth.

Throwback Thursday: The St.Thomas More College Chapel was a project 8 years in the making. The Chapel, originally a Catholic Church from North Cooranga, was relocated in 2017. Throughout the design process, Macksey Rush remained sensitive to its heritage and the significance it once helps to a small community. We endeavoured to retain the story of the Chapel and many of the original design features including a small portion of the original paintwork from the 1930’s. Today, the Chapel sits proudly at the centre of the college. It is once again a keystone building for the school and Catholic community.

This week marked the official unveiling of the newly completed lavatory facilities for Years 7-12 students at the college. We are proud to have designed in close collaboration with St. Laurence’s College.

These state-of-the-art facilities were purposefully designed to encourage positive student behaviour and support the well-being of all users. They include dedicated, well-equipped amenities for Year 7 students, Middle and Senior years. More than just a functional upgrade, the project reflects a broader commitment to creating environments that promote respect, care, and inclusivity.

The scope of works also included the thoughtful addition of chilled water refill stations and accessible bathroom facilities, further enhancing the daily experience for all students, staff and visitors.

We’re grateful to have played a role in bringing this important vision to life and extend our sincere thanks to the College for their trust and support.
