Experience the new entry for yourself this weekend 🌱

Envisioned as a point of welcome and orientation, the building is now home to the Celadon Landscape installation by .shin, an exhibition by , an active community classroom adapting to learners of all ages, and the return of flowers to the Victorian Weir greenhouse.

The contextual design bridges the beloved landscape uphill and Sunset Park, inviting visitors to cross the Cemetery threshold and extending the winding hills and nature into the neighborhood (.inc).

Soak up some art, nature, memories, and touch grass this earth week ~

Editor’s Pick!

Designed as a civic symbol of public education in Downtown Brooklyn, the building is the new home of and two dual
language schools representing the borough.

The new 146,000 SF low energy building is a first for a NYC public school and is now an energy-efficient benchmark for future

Part of the larger the complex context directly impacted the massing design of our building with the high school oriented towards the Flatbush Avenue thoroughfare and the primary
school on the quieter, residential State Street. Located within one building, the two schools share facilities while maintaining their distinct institutional identities.

The new Education and Welcome Center at is wrapping up. Catch a sneak peak of the building this October before its public opening in the spring!

ARO Principals Kim Yao and Stephen Cassell will lead tours for Building of the Day next Friday 10/10 and on Saturday 10/18.

A new orientation point for visitors, the building will feature exhibitions of the Cemetery’s collections, staff offices, an archive to learn more about Green-Wood’s permanent residents, and community classrooms to support public programming. ARO’s design wraps around the historic Victorian Weir greenhouse where visitors once purchased flowers for loved ones at Green-Wood.

Clad in a glazed burgundy terra cotta, the façade materially references the brownstone of the Cemetery’s main entrance designed by Richard Upjohn.
