Welcome to Treasured Timber

Do you have a fallen tree on your property that you don't know what to do with? Are you looking for a source of fine specially prepared West Australian timbers for furniture manufacture, craft or construction uses? Perhaps you are considering creating an outdoor deck area or laying wooden floors throughout your home. Or you may be part of an organisation looking

to find a more envoronmentally friendly way of clearing trees than burning. Here at Treasured Timber we can assist with each and every one of these requirements plus more. We own and operate a state of the art portable timber mill. We can bring it to your property, erect it around a fallen tree which we then cut into manageable slabs and timbers. We are available for contract milling - we can either leave the resulting timber product for you, or we can remove it. The timbers we remove from property are then made available for resale - all timbers we have available are listed on this site. Some are ready to go in stock, but we can also source and supply according to your individual requirements. Our timbers are available for sales globally - do talk to us about your requirements. All you need to do is contact us. We look forward to helping you!

In its draft Forest Management Plan, released in late October, the WA government claims that this picture of Boranup forest is old-growth.

Well it is not, it was logged and has re-grown and most of the commercially harvested areas regrow in less than 100 years and they are not logged more often than that.

The government has closed down a sustainable industry which supplies firewood, timber for landscaping and furniture: and now these are completely absent causing economic chaos to the many family businesses and customers that rely on this renewable resource.

Please contact forestry minister Dave Kelly and tell him that he should not be closing down a viable and sustainable industry and that people need timber for furniture manufacturing, for landscaping, and firewood to keep them warm

Extinction Crisis

We often read or hear about the “crisis of extinction” for our native plants and animals, and some environmentalists blame this on the fuel reduction burning program in south-west forests. But what are the facts? According to data provided to Parliament by the Minister for the Environment in June 2020:

- The number of species of native flora that have become extinct in WA during the last five years: Nil
- The number of new species of native plants added to the WA Plant Census during this period: 451
- The number of species of native bird or mammal that have become extinct in WA during this period: Nil

Thanks to statements by Environment Ministers in previous years we know that no species of native plant or animal are known to have become extinct in WA for decades. The bulk of species loss in WA occurred in the development of the wheatbelt, most of this happening before World War 2. When it comes to the flora of our southwest forests, not one single species of plant is known to have become extinct in southwest forests since botanical surveys began in the 1920s.

There is no “extinction crisis” in WA forests. In fact if you look at the flora the opposite is the case. New plant species are being discovered by the hundreds. Assertions by those opposed to fuel reduction burning that it is “decimating” the biodiversity need to be seen what they really are: not science but ideology, not based on data but on make-believe.

The Western Australian biodiversity is supremely well adapted to periodic, mild-intensity fire. The real threats in southwest forests are feral predators like cats and foxes, and the whole-of-landscape destruction associated with bauxite mining. Far greater damage is done to native animals and plants by large, high intensity wildfires – the very thing we try to prevent with the fuel reduction burning program.

FRIDAY FAST FACTS

Over the next three decades global demand for timber is anticipated to quadruple, driven by population growth and a growing awareness of the various benefits of using sustainable wood fibre.

Similar trends are anticipated for the national market.

This places the Green Triangle in a strong position to meet this supply demand with the Hub building a strategy to ensure the region is well-placed to benefit.

Washington state legislators are organizing bipartisan support for the timber industry and noting that forestry draws carbon from the atmosphere and could help the state meet its carbon reduction goals.
