A buffalo lawn Reno
After a pretty below average winter for the lawns and it’s been 3 years since it was last done.
Here are the steps I personally took.
And here is where it’s up to 1 month later.
Throughout the year I mow this lawn with a cylinder mower and raise the mower to ride the green up all season having a 60mm pile with a flat top by winter.
So for this years cut back it took 6 large grass bins and 9 mows with the cylinder mower. going as far as to expose the grass runners or stolons.
Now that most of the top was off my water can get to the soils a lot quicker so gave it a good water and left it for a week.
Noticed in a week some of the stolons were going dark from sun and now I was ready to topdress.
2-1/2tonnes of 80/20
80 percent sand
20 percent soil
With not chunky organics.
Once I got my spread down and made a few passes with the spreader I left it for 4 days before applying water( this is where some people go wrong.
When the soil gets delivered, it is always moist and cool spreading along the ground leaves the dirt particles larger and sometimes gets held up on top of the grass not fall down to soil level. If we apply water. Now we create like a mud cake to high up the grass blade blocking vital sunlight to the grass blades and inhibiting regrowth. so by spreading it out and only using my spreader over the next 3 to 4 days going over it multiple times allowed the dirt to really dry and fall deep into the grass pile leaving as much green foliage visible as possible.
once I was happy with the levelling and spreading only then and only then.
gave it a good 25mm drink. And our Coochie early spring mix with extra grub protection and Mega minerals.
