Nested in the heart of nature surrounded by tranquil, picturesque bushland and wildlife, Warrambui Retreat & Conference Centre’s newly refurbished facilities boast charm and functionality in equal measure.

The focal point of the site is a 1,000sqm high-ceiling Dome offering a main meeting/ common area for guests including multiple dormitories, a large commercial kitchen with seating and dining area, and storage spaces, all of which are awash in generous natural light. Other upgrades include heating/cooling, lighting, audio-visual, fire safety, and accessible mobility compliance.

Our design solution was to create an extension that sympathises not only with the existing building but also with its natural surroundings. The space features a vibrant, natural colour palette complimented by stunning Indigenous artworks of native animals by a local Indigenous artist Greg Joseph, adorning each dormitory door.

Congratulations to our Architecture and Interior Design team led by our Senior Architect, Daniel Trevino, and the broader project team on a fantastic result. Thank you Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre for entrusting us with this project.

Due to a major hailstorm event in January last year, the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA’s) Acton building has suffered extensive damage. This charming 1930, two-storey sandstone clad building is listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List and has a heritage management plan for the long-term protection and conservation of the site.

As a national institution, NFSA collects, preserves, and shares more than 3 million items of Australian audio-visual significance and has a strategic impetus to be Australia’s ‘living’ archive.

Through TSA Management, SQC Group has been re-engaged by NFSA to provide architectural and heritage management services to replace the damaged roofs. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

✪ the design and documentation of the roofs consistent with the NFSA Precinct Heritage Management Plan;

✪ the provision of heritage advice to the contractor and engineers to ensure compliance; and

✪ the preparation of a Heritage Impact Statement to obtain heritage approval.

SQC Group's Heritage Principal, Nicholas Goodwin, has been associated with NFSA and this site for over 30 years and prepared the original Heritage Management Plan.

We’re excited to work with TSA Management and NFSA once again to deliver this important initiative and continue to help preserve our invaluable heritage site.
