Flashback to a thoughtful upgrade of a 1960s home enhancing natural light, improving functionality, and strengthening its connection to the garden. Guided by mid‑century modern and Japanese design principles, the project introduced modest extensions and passive improvements to create a calm, light‑filled home that stays true to its modernist roots.

Norwood Park’s new facility thoughtfully integrates modern office spaces with deep respect for existing heritage, creating a serene, non denominational environment that welcomes all and fosters inclusivity and reflection. Featuring elegant, subtle finishes with a calming feel, the interiors embody contemporary design while remaining sensitive to the site’s legacy. Carefully considered architecture and interior design enhance community connection and provide spaces of care that are both modern and respectful.

The building emphasises its unique context with large picture windows framing mountain vistas, while its orientation maximises solar exposure. Materials honour local traditions, and Environmental Sustainable Design principles are embedded through energy efficient plant equipment, a 30 kW solar installation, and on site water retention systems. Together, these elements establish a facility that balances beauty, sustainability, and thoughtful design.

Elyse is one of those designers who sees space differently. Give her a tricky floor plan or a half-formed idea and she’ll find the logic, unlock the flow and turn it into something that feels effortless. Problem solving is her happy place, and she works closely with clients to shape interiors that feel grounded and intentional… usually with a trail of material samples on her desk

Quickfire with Elyse:
𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲: Senior Interior Designer
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀: Problem‑solving, spatial planning and seeing ideas become real
𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: A to‑do list and an imagination that refuses to sit still
𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Timber — now and forever
𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆: Thoughtful planning first, seamless delivery always
𝗨𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁: A Jill‑of‑all‑trades who’s as comfortable on the tools as she is at the design table

Beach Escape is anchored by its coastal setting, responding with a clear, robust architectural language suited to salt air, wind and bushfire conditions. The palette is deliberately humble and durable, giving the home a calm and contemporary presence in South Durras.

Two pavilions sit lightly on the site, connected by an elevated deck and angled to capture northern light and frame long views to the water. The roofline lifts and folds to echo the movement of the coastline without competing with it.

Spotted gum battens wrap through the entry, drawing you up through the stair and toward a framed view of the beach beyond. Inside, concrete blockwork, timber and steel create a palette that is honest, robust and comfortable to live with.

And yes, the surfboard letterbox is very real.
If you’re dreaming of a coastal escape with a bit of personality, we’d love to talk.

A glimpse into our interiors process.

Material studies like these help us explore tone, texture and light long before a space is built. It’s where the character of a project begins to take shape, guided by the form and planning already in place.

Behind every Trella interior is this moment of testing materials, balancing palettes and refining the decisions that shape how a space will feel. We look for the contrast, texture and tone that express the intent of the design and support the people who will use the space every day.

Across projects, the palettes shift. Some are quiet and nuanced, others are bolder and more expressive. All are built with intention, with considered colour, tactility and a clear understanding of how materials contribute to a space that feels grounded, contemporary and genuinely lived in.

Strathnairn Women’s Housing Initiative
Construction is now complete on this compact housing project in Ginninderry, delivered in collaboration with CHC Australia and the Riverview Group to provide 22 flexible, sustainable, and affordable homes for women in the ACT.

The development comprises three thoughtfully designed dwellings, each shaped to balance quality, adaptability and long term value for the community. The project incorporates adaptable layouts, the ability for some homes to be divided for home sharing, and a build to rent to buy model that supports residents on a pathway to secure housing.

Each home achieves a 7.5 star NatHERS rating and Livable Housing Silver Standard. Good orientation, cross ventilation, material selection and increased deep soil planting all support comfort, resilience and sustainability. Communal areas have been carefully arranged to enhance outdoor living, privacy and safety

At the end of last year, Canberra Trampoline lodged the Stage 2 tender for their new permanent training facility in Chisholm, with strong support from our local MLA members. As we await the outcome, we’re proud to share more of the design vision shaping this important community project.

Trella’s concept explores a clean, contemporary building form, a crisp, rectilinear volume softened by subtle façade rhythm, high-level glazing and a simple shift in volume. The architecture is intentionally simple and robust, allowing the club’s energy, movement and people to take center stage.

Inside, the facility is purpose-built to support athletes of all levels: from young families discovering movement for the first time to high-performance gymnasts training to elite standards.

More than a training venue, this project is imagined as a community anchor. A place for connection, resilience and belonging in the growing Tuggeranong region. It brings together safe, inclusive design with the club’s vision for a permanent home that can lift (pun intended) generations to come.

We’re honoured to partner with the Canberra Trampoline Gymnastics Club on a project that champions community, movement and future growth.

We look forward to the next steps.

Arnold & Co, Canberra
Trella Architecture + Interiors crafted an interior defined by curved metallic cork, Venetian plaster, and gold tiles, brought to life with specialist lighting. The material palette is deliberately restrained yet luxurious, ensuring the diamonds remain at the forefront while the space exudes timeless sophistication.

A design where finishes, light, and atmosphere converge to elevate the brilliance of jewelery.
