tips 🏊‍♀️ Gates, latches and hinges.

𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀

Pool gates must:

✅ not open towards the pool
✅ be self-closing
✅ self-latch from any open position.

𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀

Pool gate latches on the outside must be:

✅ at least 1500mm from the ground
✅ 1400mm above the top of the highest lower horizontal member.

Pool gate latches on the inside must:

✅ require you to reach up and over at a height of 1200mm at least and then down at least 150mm on the inside of the fence
✅ be covered with a 450mm-radius shield

𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀

Pool hinges must:

✅ be at least 900mm apart
✅ have a 60-degree safety cap added to the lower hinge if they are closer than 900mm apart.

And remember always to keep the pool gate shut – it’s an easy thing to do to keep your kids safe.

🏊‍♀️KEEP WATCH THIS SUMMER👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🚑

This summer the Royal Life Saving Society - Australia wants you to "keep watch" at all times by the pool to prevent toddler drownings.

It comes as new data shows one-year-olds are most at risk of drowning.

More than 200 one-year olds have died over the past 17 years, which accounts for 41 per cent of drowning deaths in children under five.

Royal Life Saving Society CEO Justin Scarr said drowning deaths in young children was preventable.

“Parents and carers need to know that the risk of drowning triples as soon as a child starts to crawl, peaking shortly after a child’s first birthday," he said.

"We can’t emphasise enough how important active adult supervision is in preventing these deaths.

"Distractions are dangerous, whether it is taking a phone call, browsing social media or ducking inside to grab something.

"We ask parents and carers to always Keep Watch."

Prepare your pool for the cool! 🏊

You may not use your swimming pool in the cooler months, but keeping up your maintenance schedule with things such as cleaning, running the filter, shock treatments and checking the water and PH balance can go a long way in winter. It's also important to ensure you check your pool fence regularly to ensure compliance with requirements.
