Revisiting an inspired place of worship we delivered in Blackburn, the Dawoodi Bohras Community Masjid is a contemporary architectural expression of culture and faith, creating an inspiring space for the community to gather and celebrate.

Beyond worship, the masjid serves as a vital hub for social and charitable initiatives, fostering connection and belonging.

Thoughtfully integrated with its surroundings, the architecture balances strength and elegance. Its robust concrete form is softened by delicate golden screens composed of symbolic geometry, casting shifting patterns of light across floors.

Inside, this language continues through finely scaled screens in the stairwell, balustrades and prayer hall. A serene, layered atmosphere is created through a grounded material palette of woven carpet, natural stone and textured walls, complemented by tactile timber and antiqued brass detailing.

The strength of our unique cultural and faith-driven projects lies in our team’s ability to listen to diverse user groups, identify their specific requirements and deliver these through empathetic, celebratory architecture that speaks to community and broader built context.

ClarkeHopkinsClarke is All In for Reconciliation in 2026.

Being All In, we actively seek to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Across our business, this looks like:
• Designing with respect for Country
• Co-designing with community and cultural groups
• Where possible, beginning projects with walks on Country
• Listening, learning, and understanding the cultural significance of place
• Running annual On Country experiences hosted by First Nations leaders
• Embedding First Nations narratives, culture and Truth throughout projects with guidance from Traditional Owners
• Holding ourselves accountable to measurable outcomes outlined in our Reconciliation Action Plan

In March, members of our team were fortunate to join an On Country experience at the Dharnya Centre in Barmah Lakes, Yorta Yorta Country. The purpose of the trip was to spend time on Country, listening and learning from First Nations knowledge holders about relationships, culture, ecology, and Indigenous ways of knowing.

Through these meaningful activities, CHC team members deepen their understanding and grow as culturally responsive designers and stewards – bringing a richer, more holistic lens to everything we create. Participants returned with valuable insights to share, presenting their learnings to each sector.

For National Reconciliation Week, we have a number of activities inviting people across our business to learn and actively participate in advancing reconciliation - through our actions, conversations, and the places we shape.

We’re proud to have supported the delivery of the new Public Sector Residential Aged Care facility for Cohuna District Hospital – a project designed to bring dignity, comfort and connection to older Victorians in the region.

The purpose-built facility includes 16 aged care beds based on the innovative small household model, with private ensuites and welcoming shared spaces that create a genuine sense of home. Alongside this, eight acute care beds provide integrated access to medical support close to community.

Inspired by the surrounding natural landscape, the design maximises daylight, open views and calm, restorative spaces that support wellbeing. With a strong focus on dementia-friendly design and ageing in place, this new facility reflects the importance of keeping people connected to family, care and country.

A meaningful step forward for inclusive, future-focused regional care.

Dramatic volcanic landscapes and evocative local artworks formed a rich foundation for the design of Mambourin Green Residents Club in Victoria's west.

Step through the ideas that informed the architecture and interior design, working in tandem to tell the story of this unique setting.

Preston Place is a thriving creekside community designed for families of all shapes and sizes. Centered around a shared backyard park, this new pocket neighbourhood celebrates community and supports the local ecology.

"At Preston Place our objective was to create architecture that supports human connection – within homes, at street level, throughout the neighbourhood and to the surrounding community." – Toby Lauchlan, Partner

Underpinned by biophilic design principles, each home amplifies the connection to nature through robust textural materials and verdant outlooks, creating a strong sense of home.

Crafted as a future-focused neighbourhood, the design places equal importance on environmental and social sustainability. Thoughtful orientation and planning deliver high levels of environmental performance, achieving a 7-star NatHERS rating, net zero carbon emissions and no gas.

Landscaped by AKAS, Backyard Park provides a shared, central space for passive recreation, exercise, neighbourhood social events and community gardens to encourage connections between residents. Regenerative landscaping is woven throughout the neighbourhood and supports the local ecology.

The new 150-bed Boollam Boollam Aged Care facility, located at the historically significant Kingston Centre in Cheltenham, is a purpose-built development designed to deliver high-quality, inclusive care for older Victorians.

Spread across four levels with capacity for future expansion, the facility has been carefully designed to support residents with complex and dementia-related care needs.

The layout prioritises privacy and familiarity, offering single rooms with private ensuites arranged in small household clusters that foster a homelike atmosphere and opportunities for meaningful social interaction.

Set within a broader precinct that provides integrated aged care services, the facility embraces the site’s heritage and enhances resident wellbeing through strong connections to nature. Landscaped gardens, open views, and pandemic-ready ventilation systems contribute to a safe, secure, and supportive environment.

Opening this Saturday as part of Melbourne Design Week is Alison Page: Creative Shape Shifter.

“This exhibition brings together the stories, materials and cultural relationships that have shaped my practice. For me, design is a life force. It’s a way for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to connect to Country, to each other, and to the stories that hold this continent together.” — Alison Page

This is the first solo exhibition by renowned Dharawal and Yuin designer, artist and cultural leader Alison Page, curated by the artist alongside Associate Professor Jillian Walliss.

The exhibition also offers an early glimpse of Alison’s most recent idea for House of BLAK, which invites a collective of First Nations artists and designers to bring Australia’s history and place-based stories to life.

ClarkeHopkinsClarke has proudly supported the exhibition and sponsored an accompanying education guide for secondary schools. We look forward to seeing you there.

The exhibition runs from this Saturday 16 May - 1 July
at The Design Gallery, Melbourne School of Design
Ground Floor, Glyn Davis Building (Building 133)
Melbourne University, 133 Masson Road, Parkville

ClarkeHopkinsClarke Architects continues to work with Alfred Health on the expansion of their specialised health facilities at Alfred 549.

Empathetically designed to promote the healing journey, it features a biophilic colour palette that references the earth, water and trees. By referencing nature, it intends to imbue the space with calm and instil wellness in end users.

Our process required close consultation, hosting regular workshops and developing custom prototypes of key design elements, such as patient and treatment rooms, that stakeholders could visit.

All of these works were designed to be undertaken in stages, in order to minimise the impact on the hospital’s operations. In step with Alfred Health, our team developed careful strategies for decanting, infection control and occupational health and safety.

Where land and water meet, the people gather. Gather. Connect. Learn.

Hamilton Hub is more than a library - it is a shared living room, a meeting ground, and a bowl of knowledge for all ages.

Rooted in Hamilton’s identity and connected to its history, it brings people together across generations to exchange ideas, celebrate culture, and build a stronger community for the future.
