Regrarians Keyline Super Plow in Action

In January 2026 there were devastating fires across north eastern and central Victoria that burned around 300,000ha.

Kath is a Regrarians Planner member who moved down from the NT and bought her dream 60ha in January 2025 and was starting to implement the farm plan she had developed during a couple of REX online farm planning programs.

Then the Longwood fire blasted through her place, burning most of the fences, all of the pasture and 80 bales of hay she was going to bale graze with as she regenerated the place. Luckily the shed that she is living in while she builds her home survived.

She wrote to me in April to ask my advice about buying a Yeomans Keyline Plow as her place had been burned out. I told her that she could borrow the Regrarians Keyline Super Plow so that she could not only do the subsoiling, but also sow some pasture and cover crop species in the same pass. Also saving her at least AUD$12K (Sorry Yeomans Plow Co!).

The timing of the cultivation is not ideal from a sowing perspective as the capeweed (Arctotheca calendula) and corkscrew (Erodium sp.) are already well established. At least they have generated some decent soil cover after the fire took everything. It may be that we come back later in the year with Super Plow and sow some summer cover crops after these die out in the spring so we can protect the soil from the summer rains and keep going with living roots.

This version of the Keyline Super Plow was designed by Luke Hallam and myself in 2017 and fabricated by Jason Hagan and myself in Jason’s workshop at (thanks J & B!)

The Yeomans Keyline Plow we bought in 1994 and is a standard 3SB toolbar (1.92m wide) with 3 x 26” shanks and Ø18” fluted coulters. A 2m wide Fix Engineering fluted roller seedbox is mounted behind the Yeomans Plow and we have 2 x Acra Plant Double Disc Openers on either side of each rip line.

Regrarians Farm Planning for Agroforestry in the Byron Shire (NSW, AU)

Lisa and I will be travelling up to northern NSW in the first week of June where I will leading this free 'Farm Planning for Agroforestry' seminar on the 4th of June—sponsored by the Byron Shire Council and its Regenerative Agriculture Department.

If this is of interest then you can book your place here: https://cli.re/FPA-Byron

We'll also be providing an in-house consult/training with the agriculture team at the Shearwater, the Mullumbimby Steiner School as they look to build on their farm's development and integration with the school program.

Thanks to Regrarians REX Alumni Mark Duncan (Byron Shire Agriculture Extension Officer) and current Planner member Callan Terry (Shearwater Farm Manager) for organising these events.

We'll also take the opportunity to catch up with Scott Hall of Syntropia while we're up there—we have a bit of agroforestry machinery work to continue collaborating on: meets the

This farm planning session will explore the process of designing agroforestry systems on farms and include a hands-on local example from our subtropical region.

How do you plan and manage an orchard for long-term farm business and climate resilience, not just this season, but for decades to come?

Join us for our first Orchard Convo with farm planner Darren Doherty (Regrarians) and Campbell Mercer, owner operator of Manna Hill Estate, certified regenerative olive grove and a five-time gold medallist at the Australian International Olive Awards.

Together they'll explore farm planning and management approaches that build landscape function, improve soil health and maintain orchards to weather whatever comes next. This one runs for 1.5 hours, so there's plenty of room for your questions.

Tuesday 26 May | 12pm AEST | Free registration via https://loom.ly/2U6bDEQ

This project is jointly funded through Soils for Life and the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
