Steps in the right direction

Funding ‘a step in the right direction’ in the fight against Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB)

This morning WALGA President Karen Chappel AM JP joined the Hon Reece Whitby MLA, Minister for Environment, and Hon Jackie Jarvis MLC, Minster for Agriculture at Hyde Park as they announced a $7.2 million tree recovery package.

WALGA President Karen Chappel AM JP commended the State Government for recognising the need for recovery and replacement funding, however there is still more to be done.

“A sustained and robust approach is essential to effectively control the spread of the borer, with the State Government playing a key role in empowering Local Governments to continue their recovery efforts and providing the required resources."

Catch some of the climbing action and the full story on the news tonight channel 9 and 10 were both there along with the local Mayor to support our efforts to find out more about this invasive beatle.

Huge thanks to all who volunteered their valuable time today, to make the day the success that it was. All media outlets were there today, various ministers and local government, excellent outcome. Minister Whitby allocated $7 million dollars for tree replacement for trees removed due to the borer- step in the right direction.
Working with local government and DPIRD is a win, win for our environment.

Big reduction for this mature Tuart. Had been previously lopped and had started to lose branches due to the poor attachment points of large epicormic growth. 'Re-lopping' or 'pollarding' are not always the only option.

WA Arbfest 2024 was a huge success. Dave Crispin, Arb West committee member, was thrilled at the 2024 WA tree-climbing competition.
