The first experience of a home begins long before you step inside.

It starts at the street.

The arrival. The threshold. The first touch.

For this home, we carefully considered how guests would experience the house from the moment they arrive, through materiality, proportion and detail.

The warmth of timber under hand. The quiet refinement of brass. The way light catches materials as they weather and soften over time.

Even something as seemingly simple as a front fence becomes part of how a home feels.

Because good architecture is not just seen.

It is experienced.

Every part of a home deserves consideration.

This custom book shelf at Foredune House began with constraint: a small guest bedroom, an access hatch that needed to remain functional, a wall-mounted radiator to work around, and circulation space that still needed to feel generous and effortless.

Before a line was drawn, we measured our clients’ books, objects and belongings. We considered how the room would be used, how people would move through the space, what needed to be hidden, accessed, displayed and stored.
The design evolved carefully through plan, access and elevation so that every shelf height, junction and proportion felt resolved.

Pieces like this may appear quiet, but they hold an enormous amount of thought.

Beautiful homes are rarely about excess. They are about careful consideration, restraint, craftsmanship and designing in response to real life.

Quiet details from site.

A notched sandstone edge carefully shaped to receive a hardwood post. Hidden behind the fence line and unlikely to ever be noticed closely, yet still resolved with care.

These are often the moments I’m most drawn to. The quieter details. Light, shadow, texture and craftsmanship coming together in a way that feels effortless.

Every project begins differently.

Some clients come to me with a site and a long-term vision for their home. Others already have plans and want clarity before making significant decisions.

My work spans new homes, renovations, interiors and Floor Plan Refinement, with a focus on homes that feel connected to their landscape and thoughtfully resolved.

From early concept design through planning approvals and detailed construction documentation, I guide projects with care, clarity and attention to detail.

I work closely with clients, builders and consultants to create homes that feel calm, grounded and enduring over time.

Based on the Central Coast, taking projects Australia Wide.

Foredune House sits between two very different conditions.

To the east, uninterrupted connection to the ocean horizon.
To the north, filtered light and openness across the lagoon.

It is a rare site. Quiet, expansive and deeply connected to its landscape.

The original house was designed by Peter Stutchbury.

I was engaged by the current owners to work across the interiors, bespoke joinery, furniture and external elements, carefully extending the language of the original architecture.

When we design, we take many cues from the natural environment. Light, breeze, texture, materiality, energy and balance all shape the outcome.

The most successful homes do not sit separately from their site. They feel anchored to it.

This is something I continue to return to in my work. Architecture that responds carefully to place, climate and the way people want to live.

Site Notes | Foredune House

The next layer of the fence and gate at Foredune House beginning to take shape.

The brief was to maintain visual connection to the bush and lagoon beyond while creating a sense of privacy and arrival from the street.

Hardwood framing has been paired with woven brass mesh and solid brass detailing, chosen for the way the materials sit alongside the original architecture and respond to the coastal environment over time.

There is a warmth and softness to these materials that feels appropriate here. The brass will patina. The hardwood will silver and weather gently with exposure to salt air and sun.

Nothing is overly polished or fixed in time. The intention is for the work to continue evolving with the landscape and the existing house.

Projects like this rely on careful detailing, restraint and a shared commitment to craftsmanship from both client and builder.

More site notes to come as the project progresses.

Site notes | Foredune House

There is a quiet confidence in well made things.

This project is part of Foredune House, originally designed by Peter Stutchbury in 2017. I was engaged by the new owners to work across the interiors, joinery, furniture and external elements, including this fence and gate.

The approach has been to complement the original architecture with care. Not to compete with it, but to sit quietly alongside it.

Crafted from hardwood and brass, these elements are designed to weather and patina over time, responding to the coastal environment and the conditions of the site.

These are early site moments. The work is still in progress, but the level of care is already evident in the detailing and construction.

Projects like this take time. They rely on patience, collaboration and a shared commitment to quality.
Respecting what is already there is often the most important part of the work.

I’ll be sharing more as the project progresses.

Every project begins with listening.

Before plans, before finishes, before approvals, I spend time understanding how you want to live.

Then we look carefully at the site. How light moves across it. How wind passes through it. How the home will sit within its landscape.

Only when those foundations are clear do we shape the architecture.

This is how homes feel calm, intuitive and enduring.

If you are building or renovating and want a home shaped around your life and your land, I would love to hear from you.

A little throwback to this exact day - 2nd of December, 2021.
My first project as a registered architect working with the incredible builder, Jeffrey Broadfield.
We had the most wonderful client, Anni, who was such a thoughtful and generous collaborator. It was a small project, but one filled with detail, care, and craftsmanship - board-formed concrete, a hardwood timber structure, and the kind of material honesty that makes a place feel truly grounded.
Working on that Church Point site surrounded by bushland was something special. There’s nothing quite like being immersed in the landscape every day as a project takes shape - the sounds, the scents, the changing light through the trees.
That project will always hold a meaningful place in my heart. Grateful for the team, the trust, and the chance to create something so considered. 🌿✨
