We’re proud to have played a role as architects in the restoration of Lismore City Hall — a project that has been about more than just rebuilding, but creating a resilient, future-focused space for the community.

This is a great opportunity for arts and cultural groups, educators, and event organisers to have a say in how the space is used so that City Hall returns as a vibrant, flexible hub where the community can come together to connect, celebrate, and share experiences.

BKA Architecture is proud to see the Lismore City Library officially reopen following the completion of major restoration works —marking the final step in bringing this vital community space back to life.

Severely impacted by the 2022 floods, the library has been fully rebuilt and upgraded to improve accessibility and functionality, ensuring it continues to serve as a welcoming hub for learning, connection, and creativity.

We’re honoured to have contributed to the renewal of one of Lismore’s most valued civic buildings and to support the city’s ongoing recovery and resilience.

Wonderful to see the quad in action!

PROJECTION | Bronwyn Bancroft: Boab tree, bountiful in shape, standing on the plains. On display in the Lismore Quadrangle each night from 5.00pm — 10.00pm.

Bronwyn Bancroft is a Bundjalung artist whose work is embedded in personal experiences based on connection to Country, family, community, and history. Her work maintains and celebrates her family’s cultural heritage while powerfully advocating for the acceptance and diversity of Aboriginal identity in Australia.

Boab tree, bountiful in shape, standing on the plains is an animated adaptation of an artwork from Bancroft’s acclaimed children’s book Why I Love Australia. A visual and poetic celebration of Country, the book uses imagery with lyrical text to capture the awe-inspiring beauty of the Australian landscape and her enduring love for it.

This projection is a creative project by Lismore Regional Gallery in the Lismore Quadrangle, supported by the New South Wales Government through Create NSW.

🌿 BKA Architecture is proud to be part of the newly opened Wade Park Amenities Block 🌟

Wade Park has come to life with the opening of a modern, accessible amenities facility, officially launched by Councillor Gianpiero Battista and Member for Lismore, The Hon. Janelle Saffin.

Designed by BKA Architecture, the project was delivered in close collaboration with Bennett Constructions as lead contractor, and expertly manufactured by Modus.

The new facility includes:

Ten unisex toilets – featuring ambulant, wheelchair-accessible, and parent’s cubicles

A repositioned layout for easier access to the adjacent playground

Four sheltered picnic tables to bookend the structure and enhance community use

Jointly funded by the Australian Government and NSW Government under the Public Amenities Resilience Upgrades program, this project sets a benchmark for quality, accessibility, and resilience in public infrastructure.

It is one of 23 amenities upgrades planned across the LGA as part of Lismore City Council’s commitment to improving public spaces.

LISMORE’S FLOOD RECOVERY HITS NEW MILESTONE
Lismore City Council’s mission to rebuild, restore and strengthen community assets and infrastructure following the devastating 2022 natural disasters has reached a significant milestone this month, with 100 projects now complete.

Delivered by Council’s Flood Restoration Portfolio (FRP), the projects span roads, bridges and landslips; sporting venues, cultural hubs and community facilities; and vital flood resilience infrastructure, including urban stormwater drainage.

Combined, they represent approximately 30% of projects in the FRP’s schedule of works.

Notable achievements so far include restoration of 55 road, bridge, and landslip damages, restoration of Lismore City Library, Lismore Regional Gallery and Lismore Airport Terminal and the clearing of more than 8kms of urban stormwater drains.

“Our driving goal has been to deliver the best outcome for the Lismore community, to do it once and do it right,” Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg said.

“The Flood Restoration Portfolio team has been doing great work since 2022, and following extensive emergency repairs, funding applications, and designing innovative solutions to our unique challenges, it’s now shifting into an exciting new construction phase,” he said.

More than 230 additional projects are now in the advanced planning, design and construction stages, with road restorations and flood resilience upgrades to see the highest focus in the coming months and years.

The Flood Restoration Portfolio is proudly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.
