Friends,

Excited to share this new consolidation of many projects with you Schimminger: Design Build Live.

I would appreciate the following and sharing of this new page as supporters of my work and the City of Hope - that has grown in response to many of the environmental and social challenges of our times.

Hopefully these projects offer practical and considered solutions to development - showing ways that we can live simpler, act louder and connect deeper to the world around us.

Open House Event at 23 Bent St - Sunday 6th October

12pm: Biophilic Environment

Last week a pair of brush turkeys started to build their mound in our back lane. The male bird basically ‘stole’ a lot of mulch from the neighbour uphill, and scratched it all down into the lane, below a tree that provides the shade they need.
I hope the neighbour does not mind and lets them stay there. With the shrinking of their habitat, brush turkeys have been moving into urban backyards.
It will be interesting to see how they go in our back lane.

City of Hope is designed to include elements that nurture the innate human/nature connection.

This was one of the main ‘must do’ items of the initial brief and lies at the core of this project.
Connection with nature must be experienced, lived and understood.

This has been realised in the design of the gardens, vertical gardens and roof gardens, in the selection of materials like the Valla Granite for retaining walls and steps.
Now the connection is nurtured daily tending to the gardens as well as in a more passive way by just looking out the window, enjoying the play of sunlight on the leaves and plants swaying in the wind and birds feeding on the nectar of the grevilleas.
And of course, by just stepping out from the kitchen to pick a few greens for lunch. Or sitting on the roof garden at night, watching the stars and following the path of the moon.

Eggs should take 50 days to hatch.
I’ll let you know if we see little chicks hatching.
