Almost Finished this Tallowood Beam for one of our Good Returning Customers .... the Beam is 250mm x 200mm x 12.4 mtrs long.

It's been a lot of work to get it right but a fun and challenging project.

It will be the main front Entrance Beam for a 4 car garage we milled up 200x200 Posts for either end and one 260x200 Centre Support Post. Bit of an overkill beam but should look fairly impressive with the Broad-Axe & Adzed finish.

I had intended to square it up with the Broad-Axe but the log had been down a bit too long and was too tough .... so ended up using Chainsaw to square up then finish with Broad-Axe & Adze to give the Hand-hewn look.

Being 12.4 mtrs long it was a trick getting it back to the work area with a 5.1 mtr overhang on the old truck.

The Policman mentioned that maybe next time I should really have attach a Red Flag on the end of the log. Sometimes we just do what we've gotta do to get the job done. Now getting it over 100 klms down the highway from our site to the building site is the next small challenge ..... now where can I find a red rag .....

This Video is from one of our earlier Post, but as many people continue to ask how we mill up the Salvaged Logs and the Old Recycled Bridge Timbers that we have in stock, I thought I'd show this video again.

This Mill can cut Boards or Slabs up to 520mm wide with just the Circular Blade. However, with the Chainsaw Attachment fitted it can cut up to 1.5 Metres Wide.

With Extension Rails fitted it can cut Logs up to 12.0 mtrs or even more if the Logs are available and you have the patience and equipment to handle timbers that are that long.

5.4 Mtr TABLE from SALVAGED BRIDGE TIMBERS.

Another job well done is this 5.4 Mtr Table handcrafted from Salvaged Bridge Timbers made by one of our many Good & Talented Customers ....
Bib 'n' Brace (Check out their Website)
https://www.bibnbrace.com.au/

The Table was Commissioned & Built for one of their Customers.

This unique piece isn’t just a table; it’s a slice of history. Each plank tells a story, one we are lucky to know about! Originally, the timber used on this table was part of the Tallowwood Decking of a bridge in Dungog Shire (Thalaba Bridge).

Timber supplied by Timberfella (Dungog).

If this is similar to something you have in mind give us a call so we can see what we can supply in the way of Timber with History to build a table that will last another 80-100 years.

Thought it about time we showcased some of the Recycled Bridge Timbers we have supplied over the past few Years.

Will be selecting out a few of our Customer's Projects (with their Permission of course).

Truss Timbers in the Main Room were 250x75 (Doubled Up) Alfreco Areas were 300x150 with a good variety of Posts and other Recycled Timbers being feature at the Main Entrance an throughout the building to provide character and a warmth that only aged, weathered timbers can bring into a new build.

Most of these Photo speak for themselves, thought some of our Followers and Other Customers might like to see what other people are doing with Salvaged & Recycled Timbers.

If you or someone you know is thinking of a nice Rustic Mantle Piece or a Feature Post (or two), maybe a nice Feature Beam .... share this Post with them we may just have something in stock or be able to Mill something up to suit their "Special Project" .....

OK, haven't Posted anything for a while now ... if you've seen our earlier posts you'll know we are in the process of moving Home and Business to a new location at Coolongolook on the Mid Coast. Hasn't been an easy move so far and still a long way to go.

However, still been able to continue filling the odd Timber Order .... Yes, we do get 'Odd Orders' occasionally, but mostly they make complete sense.

Just finishing these 250x250 x 3.5 Feature Posts Milled from Salvaged Bridge Girders (Grey Ironbark) I got through these without hitting any Bolts or Deck Screws .... so far so good.

Now working 'Undercover' from an Old Timbermill build in the 1940's so it's not only very interesting stepping back in time, but been really good especially with all the recent rain we've been having. Previously did most of our sawmilling out in the open weather elements now I'm spoilt and starting to get soft ....

For everyone "Following" on Facebook ... I'll try to send out some more Posts over the next few weeks or so.

For anyone wanting to call in to view Timbers or discuss your Project and any Special Sawmilling needs you have in the area of Recycled Architectural Timbers .... feel free to call anytime.

Our stock of Bridge Timbers is growing all the time ..... there will come a time when all the Old Bridges will all be replaced with Concrete Eyesores on the Landscape .... Practical, Solid, Maintenance free (sort of ?) they may be, but they will never have the character and peaceful presence of the Old Timber Bridges ..... except for the rattle of the decking & bolts.

Call Clive: 0427 290 724

If you wish to view Timbers we currently have in Stock, please call to make a day/time that suits.

Always happy to sit down and discuss you ideas for a Special Feature Post(s), Beam, Mantle Piece, Pergola, or any other Feature that brings a 'talking point' into your New Home or Renovation. Over the years we have had all sorts of requests for Timbers not just for Building Projects.

THE MAGIC OF 100+ YEAR OLD SALVAGED BRIDGE TIMBERS.

We have a couple of acres of Salvaged Bridge Timbers collected from over 10 Historic Local and Other Bridges from further afield.

SUITABLE FOR: Posts, Feature Beams, Fireplace Mantle Pieces, Benchtops, Amazing Roof Trusses, Furniture Making, One-Off Furnitue pieces, Front Door Entrance Portico to Alfresco Features.

Recovery Costs are Expensive but the Final Product has Timeless Presence, Patina, Character and Features that cannot be matched or recreated.

Some selected timbers can be used as they are and have been insitu for over 100 yrs, while other pieces are best if slightly worked to bring out the character, grain and colours and excentuate the boltholes and imperfections of time and harshness of the weather and the many years of service.

MILLING: We have the facilities for Resawing and Custom Milling into specific sizes.

FINISHING: In some cases where time and space is possible we can sand, wirebrush and finish.

Each piece of Timber has a history or story to tell and we are always happy to spend the time to tell whatever we know about each bridge, barn, whalf or jetty we recover our timbers from.

Call anytime to make a time to call in if interested in something different for that special project.

Call Clive: 0427 290 724
Please Phone or Text only, I rarely check Message Bank.

PHOTOS: Show some of the timbers as they look when recovered, then pressure washed, bolts Screws etc. removed, then Skim Milled to reveal the colours and features hidden for many years beneath the surface.

WATTAGAN PARK PLAYGROUND Project.

This was the FINAL Piece we completed for this project for Lake MacQuarie Council.

Finished Indigenous Artwork on the Old Seasoned Log which was salvaged from the Park Site.

See previous Posts for more details on this Project.

Artwork Design and Carving was completed by Uncle Ray (Indigenous Artist - Awabakal Elder).

Majority of the work on this item was carried out at the Timberfella Worksite near Dungog and then transported to the Warner's Bay Workshop to fabricate the heavy Steel Base (25mm Plates & the 65mmx750mm Solid Steel Centre Rod .... all Galvanised and Epoxy Coated).

Fitting the base was a tetious and delicate operation carried out by myself (Clive - Timbefella).

Now on to the next Project.

Over the next week or so I will be posting a run down on the making of some of the pieces that made up the Sawmilling Module for this Project.

A little Background Information:

COORANBONG COMMUNITY PARK.
Wattagan Playground Project

Overall Park Concept was the Insiration of Terras Landscape Architects (Newcastle).

The Sawmilling Module was inspired and based on Cooranbong's Early Beginings as a Sawmilling Town.

An Update showing some of the recently "Completed Works" following on from our previous post.

This is the Sawmilling Module. Concept by Terras Architects (Newcastle) to portray a "Sawmilling Process" as a fun, educational experience for Children (and possibly adults).

Shows the progression of the sawmilling process from an Initial Log being sawn or broken down, then sawn into the various different sized timbers that are then made into Benches, Seating/Tables etc.

The Log and the Slabs were milled from Logs 'Salvaged' from the land clearing in preparation for the Football Fields now located on this Community Development Site.

Due to a very hot Summer, Constant Rain, Floods and a number of other circumstances this project had to be scaled back somewhat .... however, everyone who was involved enjoyed working on the project and are pleased with the work that has been completed and installed.

(For further details refer to previous Posts on this Project).
