M A N O A H H O U S E 🏡
What was once an unused, bare area has been completely transformed into a functional and visually striking landscape that complements the character of this beautiful heritage home.

Our team carefully constructed every element of this project, including:
• Natural stone retaining terraces
• Feature stone stairways and pathways
• Lawn installation
• Structural planting and feature trees
• Soft, layered garden beds for year-round interest
• Decorative gravel pathways and edging
• Irrigation and landscape establishment works

The goal was to create a landscape that felt as though it had always belonged here blending seamlessly with the home’s historic architecture while providing practical outdoor spaces to enjoy for years to come.

The result is a timeless Adelaide Hills garden that offers texture, depth, structure and stunning views from every angle.

A project we’re incredibly proud of and a great example of what can be achieved when quality landscape construction and thoughtful planting design come together.

Dan is an absolute asset to the HSG team. With many years of experience in small engine mechanics and light vehicle mechanics, he brings a wealth of knowledge and problem-solving skills to every job.

Not only is Dan a highly capable operator, but he’s also incredibly passionate about horticulture and has a great eye for detail. He currently runs one of our residential horticulture teams and also looks after a transport company’s depot on a weekly basis, ensuring everything is kept looking its best.

Dan is known for being generous, reliable, and a pleasure to work alongside. His positive attitude and willingness to help others make him a valued member of the team.

2.5 years with HSG and many more to come!

Here’s Oscy!! 👏

Oscar has been with us for 4 months this year, but some of you may remember he also spent 6 months with us back in 2022 on the landscaping side straight out of school. Somewhere along the way he picked up the nickname “Sticks”… but we’ll save that story for another day 😂

Since coming back to HSG, Oscar’s work and confidence have continued to improve and he’s doing a great job on the maintenance side alongside Cornelius. The pair work really well together and always keep the jobs moving.

Oscar will be the first to admit he’s not much of a morning person, there’s been plenty of car naps on the way to site 🫪🤦🏼‍♂️ but once he’s on site he’s switched on, powered up and ready to go.

Jesse has now been with the team for over a year and a half and has become a huge part of the HSG crew, currently leading one of our residential maintenance teams across Adelaide.

As a qualified horticulturist, Jesse brings plenty of knowledge, passion and attention to detail to every property he works on. Whether it’s fine pruning, plant health, lawn care or keeping gardens looking their absolute best, he’s always happy to get his hands dirty and put in the hard work.

Outside of work, it sounds like Jesse doesn’t mind a good Pad Thai or stir fry after a big day on the tools 🍜😂

And unlike most people, Jesse actually enjoys using secateurs… ✂️

Welcome to a project we completed years ago, a space that has become a true haven to entertain or unwind.

Designed, constructed and maintained by Hills Sustainable Gardens, this project is all about balance, clean lines, soft textures and a seamless flow between hardscape and planting.

From the structured lawn and railway sleeper steppers, to the layered native plantings and screening, every element has been carefully considered to create a space that not only looks sharp but functions effortlessly all year round.

The fire pit zone, curved hedging and mature screening gives this garden depth, privacy and a place to unwind.

This is what happens when construction meets long term maintenance.

What a great teammate to have on board. Swany has been working closely alongside Sean and Richard since joining us, taking on their knowledge and applying it well on site.

Lately he’s shown strong initiative, a real eagerness to step up and a clear drive to run a maintenance team in the future and he’s going about it the right way.

It’s also great to see the balance he brings as a family man and a keen sportsman, which reflects in his attitude and work ethic.

Keep up the great work mate keep proving you’ve got what it takes to lead a team 🤝

A space designed to slow things down and sip on a coffee ☕️

Tucked into the landscape at Carrick Hill, this garden blends structure with softness where crushed pathways lead you through layered plantings into a calm, functional outdoor setting.

The seating area sits naturally within the space, surrounded by light, movement and seasonal colour. Feature trees will continue to establish and provide canopy over time, while the underplanting fills out to create that relaxed, immersive feel.

It’s simple, but it works.
Every element has a purpose from the flow of the paths to the balance of planting and open space.

A place to sit, connect, and take it all in.

Heressss Jimmmmy.
Shorty’s been with us for a couple of months now and has hit the ground running. Hard-working, team-first and always showing great initiative, exactly what we’re about at HSG.

He’s been on our Monarto project since day one, getting stuck into a large-scale job and now he’ll be heading over to our Mid Coast works where he’ll get exposure to a wide range of landscaping over the next couple of months.
Originally from KI, he’s a top bloke who gets along with everyone and just gets stuck in without being asked.

Tanner has recently joined our landscape crew as an apprentice and in just 4 weeks, has already shown great passion, initiative, and a willingness to learn, exactly what we look for.

And saying you love a shovel… that’s earned a few brownie points straight up 😂
It might sound simple, but it’s one of the most important tools in landscaping and you’ll be getting plenty of practice with it on your next job at PAFC next week 😉

We’re looking forward to seeing what the next few years bring mate.
