Forgetting to water your indoor plants in winter is a common mistake. But so is over-watering. In fact, over-watering is the main cause of death for indoor plants.

So, how do you know if your plant needs watering or not?

A trick is to wiggle your finger into the soil to roughly 2.5cm. If the soil’s dry, water it. If it’s wet, leave it well alone. If it’s just moist, check back again in a couple of days.

Another really important thing to consider in winter is the temperature of the water. Water that's too cold can be bad news for your indoor plants. So if the water coming out of your tap is icy, try to get it to room temperature. This can be done by leaving it to stand for a few hours.
