// Architecture matters—it creates the world around us.

LAVA – Laboratory for Visionary Architecture is a network that exists at the intersection of architecture, inquiry, and the future.

Each project is an opportunity to transform architecture into something more than structure—into a culture, a living organism that evolves in response to time, space, and society. Our goal is not just to create, but to inspire a built future that is both progressive and enduring.

We believe in architecture as a presumed future—something that exists, not as an abstraction, but as a set of tangible possibilities awaiting realization.

In our laboratories in Berlin, Ho Chi Minh City, Stuttgart and Sydney, questions are the starting point. Our speculative process frees the imagination—creating space for reflection, experimentation, and the exploration of new ways of visionary thinking.

To venture beyond boundaries is to interrogate them. We see every limit as an opportunity to ask, challenge, and deconstruct—because every boundary is merely a question waiting to be answered.

Meet the German Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka 🇯🇵

The design aims to illustrate how future architecture and urban development can combine circularity and lived experience by integrating nature and built environments within “closed material cycles.” Additionally, it aims to combine architecture, landscape, and exhibition programs in one holistic experience, highlighting a circular future.

Tower for the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh

The core is split into two elements along the eastern and western facades limiting the amount of solar gains and creating more flexibility for the interior.

A set of stacked atria filters light through all levels of the building, with shading devices facing east and west. This supports communication via overlapping views (both horizontally and vertically) into different meeting spaces across a planted vertical landscape filled with daily activity. Spaces promote creativity and relaxation, supported by climatic, acoustic and material treatment.

The parametric facade design reflects the internal organisation. Large openings mark the atria on the southern and northern side, while a pattern of small windows covers offices in all other areas.

Adapted to climate and culture, the headquarters is a key element of the masterplan for the Saudi Arabian national science agency and its national laboratories.

Tonight at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Tobias Wallisser will participate in the talk as part of 4a Architekten Stuttgart's exhibition "SWIMMING IN ATMOSPHERE".
