One day I will visit here. I find this fascinating. Some plants are legitimately poisonous, some are lovely garden plants that have a toxicity, and some are even used in modern medicines. It just goes to show how diverse our planet is and how versatile (depending on quantity) our flora really is. Of course we have some of our own unique "deadly" plants in Australia. Did you know that bushmen used to stir their billys with eucalyptus leaves and branches, to create a flavoured tea. But using the wrong species could cause convulsions, paralysis and, in some instances, eventual death. As they say; the more you know.

Inside the beautiful Alnwick Garden, behind a locked gate, there's the Poison Garden: it contains only poisonous plants. Trevor Jones, head gardener, was kin...

Good morning all. My how time flies when you're busy. I have a few spots open for later this week. Give us a call, message, whatever, if you would like some work done. Or even a consult for work, plant ideas or general garden concerns. Happy to help with them all. Fully qualified horticulturist, lived in Darwin for over ten years now too.
For those of you hitting the races today, remember to pace yourselves, drink water too, enjoy a lunch break and don't drink and drive. There's plenty of other ways home.
Love you guys, take care, hope to see you around soon 😁

I have had a lot of inquiries regarding what people can do in their gardens towards the end of January, and during the rainy days. So here's a few ideas, if you are looking for something to do;
Aerate your lawn. With the amount of rain we are getting, and with the final few months of warmer weather, your lawn will be pumping out growth. Mow it a little higher to prevent the blades from burning and scorching of the sheath and roots. And give it a run through with a garden fork or motorised aerator, this allows for the rain to not only get in to the roots, but allows air in, preventing rot and fungus from spreading. Keep an eye out for curl grubs tho, more on them later.
Take some cuttings. The rain promoting growth and perfect mix of warmth and humidity, means that cuttings have an increased chance of striking. However you need to keep an eye on the rain, if we get a day or two of nothing, your cuttings will need manual watering.
Give the garden a healthy cut back. Regular pruning not only gives you a chance to monitor your plants health, but promotes new growth. You can also get a head start on training your vines and hedges, as they will be growing quickly at this time of year.
Keep an eye on your pool as well. The increased nutrients falling from the sky will not help you to keep a clean pool. And frogs will see it as a perfect nursery for their eggs and tadpoles. Its a great excuse to teach the little ones of the circle of life as well, so grab a bucket and raise some froglets.

So whilst some are winding down for the year and getting the final festive celebrations out of the way, some of us are ramping up :)
So whilst I have a spare moment; I would like to Wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. And A huge Thank You to the many people who have helped me set up and start my small business venture. From my family and friends, co-workers and clients, fans and new followers, thank you, I wouldn't be here without your support. I will continue to work on my business page, advertising and possibly even a name (still open to suggestions). Also keep tuned in 2017 for new services and helpful tips and tricks.
Be safe out there, don't drink and drive, if you do drive, do so to the conditions and have a great new year. See you all in 2017 :)
