.........Community Garden Working Bee .........
What a fabulous day we shared today in our warm, sunlit community garden with many hands making light work. A huge thank you to all volunteers who joined us as we worked together on the much-needed tasks such as w**ding, digging, clearing ground, whipper snipping, moving timber and a shade house ………
All the activity created some hungry tummies which were rewarded with delicious soups, salads, breads, patties as well as sweet treats and a cuppa around our cozy firepit.
More space has been created following the day’s activities, for a few more garden beds to be created, meaning more healthy food to grow and share.
Do come visit us any Mon, Wed, Frid or Sat, 9am to 12:30pm.

New podcast! I talked to Andrew Flachs, author of the wonderful new book, "Feeding the World as if People Mattered." He's an anthropologist who explores the food system through the lens of human values—not just profits and yields. He finds—no surprise!—that smaller and more biodiverse farms contribute so much to soil health, human health, rural communities, and the biosphere—even as those very same values are degraded by big monoculture farms. By expanding our accounting to include people and the planet, we could have a thriving food system that actually benefits life itself.

What's happening at the Dorrigo Community Garden?
Well, we need a few more helpers to harvest, w**d, build more raised beds and bring some new energy in.

We are planning a Sunday Garden Gathering this month, with food and cuppas around the new fireplace. Does anyone have great ideas for what to cook over an open fire?

Last Sunday in May, the 31st - 9am start

Another great Saturday morning in the Dorrigo Community Garden. Gardeners love Autumn in Dorrigo!

Medieval gardens grew over 100 different vegetables. Your grocery store carries about 30. And most of those 30 are the same plant bred into different shapes....

I asked Google's AI "How many regenerative land projects are lead by community in australia?"

AI: While there is no exact, single number for community-led regenerative land projects in Australia due to the rapid, decentralized growth of the movement, evidence shows hundreds of such projects are active, with participation ranging from small volunteer efforts to regional catchment initiatives.

That's encouraging! Dorrigo Community Nursery Inc is one of the "small volunteer lead efforts". We are working on a corner of the local showground, with a native nursery, a seed savers group and community food gardens. We are also planting and w**ding to restore habitat on the local waterways.

Saturday mornings are a good day to join us in the community gardens. We are harvesting persimmons this month
