Opening Date Information - Saturday, May 24th, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Historically, May 17th/18th have not been safe dates, temperature-wise, to plant warm-weather crops such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. In fact, on Sunday, May 18th our low is to be just 3 degrees! And on Monday, May 19th, the low is to be 4 degrees.
The up and down temperatures have prevented us from properly hardening off our seedlings, grown organically right here in Dunrobin. As a result, our first day open this year will be Saturday, May 24th. It is important to us to sell only hardy, healthy plants.
Please note: cucumber, zucchini, squash and pepper plants, if under 10 degrees for a couple of days, can suffer damage. Tomato plants, if flowering and under 10 degrees for a couple of days can produce cat-faced fruit months later.
On another note, due to health issues, we have focused on edibles this year, as well as canna lilies. You may look forward to seeing these plants for sale on May 24th:
