As National Reconciliation Week draws to a close, Archr Design acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elder’s past, present and emerging and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Reflecting on this year’s theme of tackling the unfinished business of reconciliation, we are reminded of the hard work, trust and collaboration needed to build relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous peoples.
Acknowledging the important impact that architecture has and continues to play on Indigenous lands; when engaged to complete the design of a residential masterplan on Djabuganjdji land, Archr Design travelled to the site and met with Jamen Wilcox, a locally based Indigenous consultant from Djambul.
What followed was a highly collaborative design process, that generated a scheme respectful of the natural elements of the site; with walking trails, kick about spaces, community gathering spaces, and amphitheatres. As the project progresses, the team aims to continue to form strong partnerships by working hand in hand with the community and clients to achieve lasting creative impacts.
In the spirit of reconciliation, Archr Design is committed to creating community-focused places, by using the tools and education available, to build a more just and equitable Australia. Be Brave, Make Change.
