🌳❤️ A couple of weeks ago we had the privilege of adding this beautiful advanced Autumn Red Maple to an already stunning garden.

It's easy to get caught up in the instant impact of planting a tree like this, but what we really love is thinking about the years ahead.

The shade on a hot summer afternoon.

🌿 We all know and love Loropetalum 'Plum Gorgeous'... and for good reason.

It's one of those tough, reliable shrubs that's anything but boring. With its rich burgundy foliage and masses of pink flowers, it's earned its place in plenty of local gardens.

"I'd love a fruit tree, but I don't have room for two..."

We hear it all the time.

What many people don't realise is that apples, pears, plums and some cherries need a pollination partner to produce fruit. Great in theory... until you realise your backyard isn't quite large enough for a mini orchard.

Just when the garden starts looking a little sleepy, Zygocactus step in and put on a show 💃

Covered in masses of bright pink, red, white, orange or purple blooms, these winter-flowering beauties are one of the easiest indoor plants you'll ever grow.

Unlike desert cacti, Zygocactus naturally grow in the forks of trees in Brazilian rainforests, which means they prefer a little more moisture and humidity than their prickly cousins.

☀️ Bright indirect light
💧 Water when the top few centimetres of soil are dry
🪴 Use a free-draining indoor plant mix
🌸 Feed with a liquid fertiliser after flowering
🚫 Avoid overwatering, especially during winter

The best part? With a little care, they'll reward you with flowers year after year and often become treasured family plants passed down through generations.

🌿 One of the biggest mistakes we see in the garden?

Planting everything the same.

The gardens that really catch your eye aren't necessarily the ones with the rarest plants or biggest budget. They're the ones that play with texture, colour and contrast.

Think soft grasses against bold architectural foliage.
Fine-leaved natives next to broad-leaved tropicals.
Silver foliage beside deep burgundy leaves.
Spiky plants mixed with soft, mounding forms.

It's the contrast that makes each plant stand out.

A garden full of green can be beautiful, but adding touches of purple, silver, lime, blue or burgundy foliage creates interest even when nothing is flowering 🌿✨

Next time you're choosing plants, don't just think about the flowers. Look at the leaf colour, shape and texture too.
