There’s something pretty special about a client coming back 13 years later.

Jack & Julie’s Breakfast Point apartment has a long history with me — from the original design and its appearance in Home Beautiful, to being invited back all these years later to give the home its next chapter.

This time, we softened the palette, refined some of the bolder elements and reworked the apartment for how they live today — without losing the personality that made it theirs.

LEGAL PEACE OF MIND ⚖️

If you’re a solo interior designer or decorator who coordinates trades, it’s important to have clarity around exactly where you stand — particularly when it comes to receiving client money, paying trades and charging for the time involved in coordinating it all.

In 2026, I decided to seek updated legal clarity around my own interior design business and how I structure this part of my service. In this week’s Turnkey Design Talk, I’m sharing five of the biggest takeaways from that process.

Not as a lawyer — as a fellow designer who wants to deliver a seamless, professional service while making sure the client, the trades and my own business are appropriately protected.

For me, having that clarity doesn’t mean stepping back from coordinating a project. Quite the opposite. It means understanding the boundaries, knowing how to structure the service and being able to confidently charge for the work involved.

If you coordinate painters, electricians, cabinetmakers or other trades — or receive client funds to pay trades — this is a great episode for any solo designer or decorator to listen to.

The irony of returning to Instagram with an episode about finding clients away from Instagram isn’t lost on me… 😂

But I’m back — and this week on Turnkey Design Talk, I’m talking about what a solo designer or decorator can actually do to move the needle on exposure — in real life, rather than just in the scroll.

I was partly inspired by a recent conversation with Chloe Binek from Chloe -Interior Designer & Decorator | Regional Vic . I loved hearing about some of the practical things Chloe is doing to get herself and her business in front of potential clients, and it got me thinking about the different ways we can create opportunities for ourselves.

In the episode, I share some of Chloe’s ideas alongside my own thoughts and experiences with getting out there, meeting people, building relationships and creating visibility in the real world.

Because when you’re a solopreneur, you probably don’t have a marketing department doing this for you. Sometimes you have to create the opportunities yourself.
