Enjoying the last of the solstice light that followed a crisp, clear and quite frankly glorious winter day. Ah the shortest day - our yearly reminder from the universe that this season, as with all others and all of life in general, will pass and that beauty can only exist in finite form so must be consumed and existed within at every fleeting opportunity. So as I’ve filled my cup with the best the light has to offer during the narrowest window light in the calendar, so shall I enjoy what our young high-school saturday worker so positively referred to as β€˜The longest night of the year’ πŸ™πŸ©΅πŸ’™

There is a fleeting window of light, within a small temporal window tucked within the seasonal cycle, that is pure magic.
Its magic lies in the necessary mindful state required to drink to it in, to see it and not miss it entirely.
At the tail end of autumn, when signs of dormancy are entrenched most places your eyes settle in the garden; a time when the lipsticks and flame bushes and other big brash reds have done their day and the deeper, slower-burning crimsons of the palmatums and softly melting butter yellows of the ginkgos come to play.
Warmth drops and brisk air rolls in fast as a sunset that fees likes it’s robbing you of sacred time leaves a dream-like dusk that somehow makes the mirage of colours brighter and even more vivid, more crisp than in the direct light of the sun.
It’s a window of beauty that feels cruel, as if it’s taunting you about your capacity to withstand a season of frosty greys and browns once it’s gone.
I like to think of it not as a jeer of contempt, but as a cheer of encouragement; a reminder of all that you will get to experience all of this all over again, not just this one but all of the windows in seasons and times that will captivate you in different, but equally as moving ways.
