We receive a lot of enquiries regarding fence topper/extensions to extend the height of existing fences for increased privacy.

Quite simply, we do not recommend the use of these unless they are of open weave lattice construction. We also don't recommend the use of them unless the fence was built by us or otherwise built to our standards.

Attaching tight woven toppers/extensions to existing fences increases the wind load on the fence… or… increases the surface area that wind can push against the fence as it is unable to pe*****te it.

Attaching tight woven toppers/extensions to existing fences that are already leaning, or fences that were poorly built (i.e. the posts are not sunk deep enough into the ground) will accelerate the rate at which the fence continues to lean, destabilise or fall completely.

At Knox Fencing, we sink our paling fence posts into the ground at least 700mm as standard. This ensures our fences stay upright for longer, ensures the customer receives maximum value for money spent, and also means that if our customers choose to add open weave fence toppers/extensions to one of our fences, they can do so with confidence that they are not shortening the lifespan of their investment.

Earlier this year we completed some exposed post and capped paling fencing for a customer in Ferny Creek. We also installed an almighty cypress post from which they planned to hang a new driveway gate.
With the gate in place, yesterday we returned to install a second monster post to complete the job.

Still needing some final prep and paint, this exposed post 3 rise windsor picket wing fence & gates is a sample of what's to come for the front boundary. We have also completed approx 120m of new wire/mesh fencing along the three remaining boundaries.
