🚨 Designing for the climate - While we recover from the 4 day heatwave here in Melbourne, we’ve been chatting about how important it is to design for the climate and the increasing extremes that are being experienced everywhere. By integrating sustainable practices across building techniques, material selections and the utilisation of a bespoke energy system, Heather’s house, located in rural Victoria, creates a comfortable indoor living environment with very minimal dependence on heating and cooling systems. There’s plenty of aspects that can be factored into houses, both old and new, to ensure similar outcomes and we’re glad to see this being a more prominent priority of our clients. We’re excited to share photos of one of our latest projects: The Cat Clinic, a veterinary facility dedicated exclusively to feline care. The clinic’s design reflects its commitment to the well-being of both patients and staff, creating a calm and supportive environment. With a focus on staff welfare, the facility has been thoughtfully designed to foster a healthy workplace while enhancing the quality of care. Additionally, its dedication to sustainability and harmonious design sets a new standard for feline veterinary facilities, ensuring comfort and excellence for animals, owners, and staff alike. A few shots of the bathrooms, laundry and study nooks at the Dunstan Street renovation. While keeping a small footprint, an additional bathroom and laundry were efficiently incorporated. A study nook and storage cupboard were added to the hallway, doubling up the use of the space that leads to the open, light filled living area at the rear of the house. If you’d like to read more about the project, there’s a link in our bio. Photos by

We had pop by our newly completed renovation in Brunswick to take a few snaps. The transformation from a pokey lean to that crammed in the kitchen, dining and laundry to this light filled, open living area has been a joy to watch! If you’d like to read about the project, there’s a link in our bio.

We're excited to share that our team have recently completed a childcare centre project in Kingsville, Melbourne that we've written a few words about.

Our article delves into various aspects of the project, addressing challenges commonly faced by early learning facilities in metropolitan areas, such as limited space on inner urban sites, a sensitive approach to residential neighbours, and the incorporation of elevated outdoor play spaces.

The primary focus of our design was centred around providing an environment tailored to children's needs. We aimed to incorporate flexibility and longevity while ensuring that the spaces are not only functional but also exciting and stimulating for the kids.

If you'd like to read about the thought process behind the design and the solutions we implemented, you can find a link in our bio.

Thank you for capturing the centre so well!

We’ve been chatting about housing affordability and the limited access to housing many people are increasingly experiencing in Australia. The team have been reflecting on alternative housing models and the way that architecture can be a part of the solution, responding to the need for additional dwellings in established suburbs.  The discussion reminded us of a project from 12 years ago where two couples shared the one site in Cape Patterson to develop separate dwellings with shared garden spaces and services. There’s a link in our bio if you’d like to read some more.

Gardiner Architects and Project 12 Architecture are voting YES in the referendum. We see The Voice as a humble gesture and an opportunity to listen. A first step of many towards better results and tangible impact. We support a voice to parliament and see it as the start of an important process in improving systems to support Australia’s First Nations population.

A mix of materials that are both warm and durable were applied to the High Street Apartment shared foyer and corridors. We’re hoping the spaces washed with natural light make the occupants more inclined to enjoy opting for the stairs!
