Plants draw the optimum amount of water from below via a process gardeners call "wicking".

These Orto raised wicking beds (1.5 x 1.2m) are built extra high (0.8m) for better ergonomics. The wicking layer was raised with gravel to also achieve an ideal wicking depth.
