Out and about in Sale, Victoria.
The first two photos are of a saw sharpening business. I didn’t realise that Russian Constructivist designs were a local specialty! This really stopped me in my tracks whilst on an afternoon walk.
The fabulous ANZAC inspired mural is on the exterior wall of the Sale RSL and has made its mark in the region. Even the train station has some silhouette metal plaques at the railway station. constructivist

The many versions of The Great Barrier Coral Reef poster by James Northfield circa 1935.
To say I have a love affair with this poster is an understatement. When Sam from “Vintage Posters Only” asked me to restore an original version I put it off for months a bit intimidated.
I hand painted/copied the image for my own use a few years ago that took a month of Sundays to do with an overhead projector.
The lettering was tricky but took my time as I wanted it to look good.
This hand painted large version is hanging on my wall as pictured with the original poster in my clutches.
Stunning imagery and beautifully executed by Northfield, wish he could bring the reef back to life like it’s portrayed here!

A few stunning and rare Percy Trompf vintage posters in the studio.
The Australia/Sydney poster had the whole bath treatment, linen backing and the missing pieces replaced. The stains were all over the back and bleeding through to the image. The wash water was a satisfying black tea colour.
The Hepburn Springs poster had a large lower right hand side piece missing so of course this had to be re done.
These natural water springs are near my home town of Ballarat were and still are a great spot for camps and club activities. I went there as a child with a Sunday School Group back in the early 1970’s when you just got off the bus and racked off unsupervised to climb trees and swing into the water. Just come back for lunch and be on the bus by four o’clock were the only rules.
