Main primary road failures mill and filled and small areas of crocodile cracking repaired using AJT CRACK MAT….. all patches sealed with AJT Joint tape. Small pavement preservation investments like this will extend the service life of this road.

From Friday 6 September 2024, Gold Coast–Springbrook Road between Neranwood and Springbrook will return to 2 lanes.

This marks the completion of major restoration works on this road, after multiple sections were significantly damaged by extreme rainfall and flooding events in 2022 and late 2023.

At this section of road, work crews have installed close to 260m of concrete-lined drainage to direct the flow and run-off of water.

The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). https://brnw.ch/21wMoIh

Another smart repair option taken by this major council.Main primary failure had significant sub grade failure so it was dug out and replaced with asphalt. Subgrade had yet to deform significantly in the other wheel track so AJT crack mat was used as the repair option and hotmix used in another more significant failure in the work zone….. All new and old patches were protected with AJT Asphalt Joint Tape. In total an extra 43sqm of road was protected from immenent failure by preventing water ingress into the crocodile cracking and unsealed joints. This small preventative investment will save thousands of dollars on more costly future repairs.

More small patch work completed by this council utilizing the range of AJT products… the council could only get 6 ton of asphalt - the primary failures were mill and filled while the smaller areas were protected with AJT Crack Mat. The patches were all taped and small additional road cracks also sealed with AJT Joint Tape. Previously the smaller failure areas would have been left until they become a larger problem requiring another mill and fill operation. The use of preventative maintenance products such as AJT crack mat and sealing other cracks in the work zone means this section of road should not have to be revisited in coming months….

As we head towards winter and continue to try to work around wet weather it is important to remember to make sure the pavement is dry before installing AJT Asphalt Joint Tape. No heating/melting of the tape is required but it is important that the pavement is clean and dry before applying. In this photo a gas torch has been used to dry the joint before installing the tape.
