Quick jobs to get your garden ready for winter:

• Tidy up leaves & w**ds
• Light prune (easy on tropicals)
• Add compost or fertiliser
• Mulch to keep soil healthy
• Water less, but don’t let it dry out
• Plant winter veggies (spinach, broccoli, herbs)

A little prep now = a Myles Better Lawn in spring.

What are you planting this winter?

Summer is here and it’s time to start being water wise. Here’s a few tips to help keep your lawns and gardens flourishing.

Water in the early morning: This is the most efficient time, allowing plants to absorb moisture before the heat of the day and allowing leaves to dry, which helps prevent fungal diseases.

Water deeply and infrequently: This encourages deeper root growth.

Soak potted plants: For plants in pots, if they dry out completely, submerge them in a bucket of water until the air bubbles stop.

Apply mulch generously: A 10 cm layer of organic mulch can significantly reduce soil temperature and retain moisture

And remember to only use liquid fertiliser as the granular forms will heat up and burn plants.

Hope these tips help keep your lawns and gardens looking Myles Better!

For those of you out there that like your own home grown herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers or pumpkins, this is the perfect time of year to planting your seeds or seedlings. Be sure to water early in the morning and regularly. Choose a good liquid fertiliser as the pellet forms may heat up and burn your crops, one of my favourites is a product called Gogo juice, it stinks to high heaven but is so good and the results have always spoken for themselves. Get outdoors and enjoy yourselves and good luck!

I’d love to say I had anything to do with these amazing orchids but alas these were all at the Nerang orchids show a couple of weeks back. Just incredible colours, and the skills of the growers are next level.

The wet winter days are the perfect time for mulching, great benefits for your gardens with regulating temperature and conserving moisture but even better for you, nice and cool for the hard yakka!

Don’t let the cold steal your gardening fun

I may not be able to help maintain your lawns and gardens myself but I can definitely offer some tips and tricks to help guide you, and I’m happy to answer questions you may have to the best of my ability.

My tips for lawns in winter—

- Try to reduce the frequency and increase the cutting height when mowing.
- Focus more on maintenance, the lawns health and appearance.
- Avoid granular fertilisers instead aiming for the liquid forms
- Your lawns growth will slow considerably in the cold months so now is a perfect time to get on top of the w**ds
- Towards the end of the season is the perfect time to consider aeration of your lawns in preparation for spring.

Happy gardening folks!!

It is with heavy heart that I say thank you to all who have supported me during the past 4 years or so, but unfortunately due to injury I have to close the business indefinitely to focus on my recovery and the future.
I will miss each and everyone of you and our conversations, please take care of yourselves and if I get back into the game I will be reaching out to you all asap!
