Spring is coming! Don’t get caught out again, here’s some tips and tricks to getting your garden ready for an ultra lush but low maintenance spring!
-look at the structures in your garden, hedges, trees, shrubs, give em a good trim, prune or tidy up to get them ready for a burst of spring growth! Getting them into shape will make the place look a million bucks!
- Its a good time to remove anything dead or past it’s best and consider a replacement for spring. Out with the old in with new!
-Roses are a hot topic in Goulburn everyone’s nan, pop, auntie and neighbour has a date to give them their formal prune, we go for it now onwards. Don’t be scared, they’re tough old things. Give them a spray with lime sulphur once pruned and a top up of good compost/manure around the roots to give them a boost for spring (just not against the stem!)
-Weeds, yuck! We give our garden beds a good tidy up, thin out plants that are taking over (looking at you African daisies!) Cut off the dead material on our Perennials (catmint, sedums, salvias etc) then we add a fresh layer of good compost/soil and chuck some nice new mulch on top, wether it’s bark chip, sugar cane or a big bale of lucerene you’ve got for the horses. All of this gives our plants the best foundation for an abundant spring, keeps the weeds at bay and makes the beds look brand new!
This is a very brief run down on how we prepare our gardens for spring, We do so much more behind the scenes.
