Regenerative Agriculture Alliance

Regenerative Agriculture Alliance Powered by the Farming Together program, we help farming communities build climate resilience 🌱

There is a pressing need to embrace a new way of farming that better supports natural processes to build more resilient farms and farmers. The Regenerative Agriculture Alliance (RAA), powered by the Farming Together Program, was founded in 2018 and now has more than 12,000 members. It is led by regenerative agriculture pioneer Lorraine Gordon, a registered carbon farmer and beef cattle trader. The

Alliance’s vision is to improve the holistic health and wellbeing of our landscapes and the resilience of the farmers, communities and businesses our landscapes sustain. Its mission is to make regenerative agriculture standard practice throughout Australia. RAA is deeply committed to helping farmers and communities build climate resilience through professional development, educational resources, field days, workshops, mentoring and applied research and extension.

Can you help the next generation of soil scientists? 🌱

A group of Regen Ag students from Southern Cross University want to enter a team in Soil Science Australia's national soil judging competition this year. SCU won the trophy in 2020, and team coach Dr John Grant reckons it's time to reclaim it! 🏆

The event is also an amazing opportunity for students to connect to professionals and improve their own expertise to help protect our most valuable resource -- soil.

This year the competition is being held in New Zealand, so the SCU students need some financial support. If you can help help, please email [email protected]

“Agriculture is so isolating … but RAMP’s group mentoring model was very beneficial”.

We want to give a huge shout-out to the latest graduates of our Regenerative Agriculture Mentoring Program! 🙌

The third round of this incredible program is coming to an end. We’ve been so pleased to see the new connections between our farmers and mentors, and we know these participants are ready to make some big changes on their properties! Here are some of the wonderful comments coming in:

🌱 “It was a thought-provoking experience and a catalyst for many changes and improvements in my land management and relationship practices.”

🌱 “The relationships and knowledge gained are re-invigorating my mindset within my current context.”

🌱 “RAMP created a supportive and nurturing environment.”

🌱 “It was a great way to connect to like-minded people all striving to do better in their own ways.”

Program Manager, Dr Simone Blom, said the vision had been to create a program that supported the growth and development of farmers to become regional champions of regenerative agriculture.

Resources developed through RAMP are available on the website: www.ramp.org.au
This round of RAMP was funded by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.

"A totally fun and inspiring week!"

It was so wonderful to hear this from our SQNNSWHub Bingara extension officer, Janelle Schafer, after she recently completed her professionals intensive course with the Mulloon Institute 🙌

"I was able to get a really good grasp on the design principles for designing whole catchment, plus small scale, interventions and structures to hold water high up in the landscape," she said.

"We were lucky enough to learn from hydrologist Lance Mudgway, who has 30 years of experience managing surface and groundwater in the WA context. Lance offered a very thoughtful and clear approach for addressing the environmental, social and economic issues.

"The workshop was organised by a fantastic group of NRM professionals, and it was a pleasure to meet them.

"They are a cohesive force for regenerative agriculture and environmental restoration." 🌱💪

We can’t wait to see Janelle sharing her new knowledge with farmers and land managers in the Bingara region.

Farmers and small business owners attended a very informative planning workshop at Bingara this week.

The event was hosted by the SQNNSWHub's Bingara extension officer, Janelle Schafer, and Simon Groth from Gwydir Chartered Accountants.

Janelle said it was great to hear that attendees were already thinking about changes they could make to their farming or business operations.

"Most people also said it would help them prepare for a future drought or other unplanned event, by giving them the skills to develop cash flow forecasts and manage loans and debt differently," she said.

Janelle and Simon are already planning another event! Stay tuned to our socials to find out more.

***FREE PLANNING WORKSHOP***

Farmers know that good years can quickly turn into tough years, and often for reasons out of their control – drought, floods, interest rates, changing markets and many other factors.

But good planning can help!

Experienced rural advisor Simon Groth from Gwydir Chartered Accountants is running a free workshop at Bingara that will help farmers and small business owners with planning and cash management skills.

The workshop will be held at The Living Classroom on Wednesday, July 24, from 6-8pm.

For more information or to book, visit https://farmplanning_bingara.eventbrite.com.au
The workshop is an initiative of the Lismore Node of the SQNNSWHub. The Hub receives funding from the Federal Government's Future Drought Fund. We are also grateful to Gwydir Shire Council for its support of this workshop.
