“We focus on creating buildings that are sited appropriately with minimal impact on the ecology of the site; design spaces that connect to the broader landscape; orientate the house suitably to incorporate passive solar design principles, and use building elements to connect the external environment and surrounding skyscapes. We enjoy working collaboratively with our clients, the consultancy team,

builders and artisans to create bespoke buildings which are site and client responsive and where life seamlessly meets place.”

The defining feature of The Pool House is the skylight. Comprised of 15 glazed panels resting on a steel T-sectioned frame, it spans the full 9.6 metres of the pool. The purpose of the expansive skylight is to allow for as much light as possible to enter the space, creating an open atmosphere that evokes the feeling of being outdoors, while still offering the comforts and practicalities of an indoor pool.

The Pool House build was challenged by area limitations. We were able to maximise this limited area by building directly along the boundary, to shape a lap pool that delivers outdoor clarity with indoor comfort — a restorative space designed for daily practice and quiet renewal. Additional external access was added to create ease of entry without having to move through the main living space.

Introducing The Pool House.

Shaped by a highly constrained site, on which the brief centred achieving the largest possible lap pool, we were challenged to produce a functional and visually fitting facility attached to the existing house. Natural light was an essential consideration within our design methodology which allowed an opening of the space and the formation of connection with the sky-scape.

Aside from Glen Rosa’s interior, which was clad with sustainably milled pine from the property, timber was also used externally. Our focus on the materiality of charred timber intends to enhance the original timber cladding. Charred timber was introduced to gently distinguish the new work from the existing fabric, creating a clear, respectful dialogue between the past and present.

Across Glen Rosa, original rooms were preserved and restored. The kitchen was expanded and reorientated to improve its connection to the lounge and the former study - once a narrow, transitional space - has become a quiet TV sitting room.

A key intervention of this project involved linking the existing shed to the house and transforming it into a generous bathroom. Recycled Tasmanian oak lines the walls and ceilings, paying homage to the space’s previous form while offering the comfort of contemporary amenities.

The glazed corridor clarifies circulation, creates a defined back entry and introduces a sheltered porch. Its transparency allows the original cottage to remain visually prominent while offering a contemporary counterpoint.

Introducing Glen Rosa.

This newly completed heritage alterations and additions project took advantage of previous existing structures to create new connections.

An existing outdoor shed was transformed into a functional bathroom to connect to the existing heritage house via a glazed link-way.

The new dining room, located at the end of the glazed link-way is akin to a conservatory, providing the feeling of being outside. In addition, a pergola structure extends from indoor dining to an outdoor dining space.
