In full transparency: my love for gardening wasn’t translating into a love for the business.

It was feeling too transactional and was lacking the depth that I look for in life.

I’m not requiring lawns to lunch to be a constant stream of income, and as such, I’m only taking on new clientele through an application process.

If there’s an alignment of values and vision, and a capacity for on-going collaboration then we could potentially move forward together.

Thanks to everyone that’s supported me up until this point. Looking forward to some new and exciting projects in the coming year 🙏

A little before and after of a job from earlier in the week.

Making the most of the sunniest spot in the garden.

Adding height for ease of access as well.

Winning all round and a good use of wasted space ✅✅✅

Thanks to everyone that’s supported me up until this point!

Right now, Lawns to Lunch is in the process of being upgraded with proper systems and structures to support it to flower into its next phase of growth.

I’m currently up-grading and finalising the business plan, building a website, getting the e-newsletter up and running as well as building a seedling station and Bokashi compost system for better and cheaper results for clients!!

Juggling all this with my family first values means there’s little space to create content at the moment.

So while you may not see much from this account for a short time, just know I’m putting down roots so Lawn to Lunch can grow into it’s full potential.

Much love ✌🏼🌱

It’s a gorgeous day here in Hobart and it’s the time of the year to get Garlic in!

For success your garlic will need:
• lots of compost
• a sunny spot
& enough space (they don’t like competition)

Such a powerhouse of goodness for the body! It’s a crop that requires lots of patience but the pay off is always worth it!

Let weeds do their job!

Allow weeds to grow strong roots,
which will till deep into the soil.

Cut weeds off at ground level before they seed,
but leave their roots in the earth.

These roots will add carbon and help keep the soil aerated,
while feeding the varied web of life within the soil.

During their life and after their death,
plant roots work to promote healthy soils.

This is biomimicry and the way of the future.

Weeds are just prepping the soil for the next phase of the soil's life.

Once weeds have set the stage along with the lettuce families,
Brassica’s can more easily step into their line of secession,
next to the more fungal loving vegetables, like tomatoes.

Each plant type having preferred conditions in the soil,
as the soil progresses into more fungal than bacteria,
along with Ammonium to Nitrates.

Then on to further successions with bushes,
then tree families, and Conifers forests.

With this knowledge we can now find the best kind of compost to fit our plants needs.

This way of thinking is about teaming up with Nature,
rather than trying to dominate it to suit our desires.

This is a regenerative mindset,
which goes beyond 'sustainability'.

Because we can't sustain the trajectory we're on.
We need to replicate the inherent intelligence of nature in a global way,
and starting with our own back yard.

If you're ready to be part of the solution.
Lawns to Lunch is here to help.

"Today, the industrial food chain is a long sequence of interconnected components ... There’s no questioning the sheer scale and size of this system – it operates on over 75 percent of the world’s agricultural land, using 90 percent of the fossil fuel energy, and 80 percent of the water – but it only feeds 30 percent of the world’s population."

"In both material and ideological opposition to this singular overarching industrial system, there exist countless smaller systems – intricate webs comprising over 2.5 billion small-scale farmers, peasants, fisherfolk, pastoralists, and Indigenous peoples. Today, these communities operate on small patches of just 25 percent of the world’s agricultural land, to feed 70 percent of its population. "

"Today, a handful of corporations control nearly every aspect of the industrial food chain. Four corporations control over 49 percent of the private seed market, and over 75 percent of the agrochemical market. Four corporations control over 75 percent of global grain trade. With their overwhelming control, they effectively dictate the ways in which communities access the food and resources they need to survive."

One of the keys to successful gardening is being proactive rather than reactive.

Proactive is planning for Spring in Autumn and ensuring the environment is right, when the time is right.

Being proactive takes time to build your knowledge to know what you’re doing.

Obviously when starting out, it’s super common to be more reactive.

Reacting to pests and taking measures to counter them.
Reacting to the weather with its turbulence and uncertainty.
Reacting to seedlings getting ripped out by birds.

Etc etc

But it’s only by learning these lessons, that we know what to do to be proactive for the next season.

Being an efficient Gardner is a process.
Many people give up after only a season or two.

Gardening is actually a lot like parenting; there’s stages to it
and it’s unrealistic to get it right all the time, every time.

It takes tremendous patience and perseverance.
But it’s worth it in the end.
