When our clients asked for floor-to-ceiling glazing that would run the full height of their two-storey farm house, we knew exactly what that would take — a structural steel frame engineered to carry the load, specialist vacuum lifting equipment, a crane, a very steady crew, and a fair bit of collective breath-holding on site.

Those glass panels are enormous. Getting each one off the truck, up into position and perfectly seated into the frame without a scratch is one of those jobs that looks almost effortless when it goes well — and is anything but.

But here's the thing. When you're standing inside this home and looking out through that wall of glass, none of that will matter.

An excellent decision on behalf of the state government! You will shortly be able to build an ancillary dwelling up to 90 square metres - instead of the previous 60 square metres - on the same block you have your principle residence on.

To put this into perspective, 60 SQM is just enough for a compact two bedroom/one bath home. 90 SQM can accommodate up to three bedrooms with a main bathroom and possibly an ensuite! That's a home capable of accommodating a full family.

We're not certain of the dates when this change will come into affect but it shouldn't be too far away. It's certainly worth thinking about starting the design process in anticipation of the change being implemented.

Tasmanians will soon be able to build second dwellings that are 50 per cent larger than the current size. An urban planner says other jurisdictions should follow suit.

Possibly one of the most iconic Georgian buildings in Hobart - The Royal Engineers Building. We are so proud to be the principal contractor chosen to refurbish this beautiful old building ready for its new tenants. Heritage buildings like these need to be used so it'll be great to see the REB come back to life again.

Maybe we'll get our name added to the plaque!

Really happy with this staircase. So much storage with hidden cupboards and the essential wine fridge! There's even somewhere for Bob the Robovac to live. And, the best thing is that it didn't cost a fortune. The carcass is made from marine ply and the treads are made from old floor joist offcuts.

PS: For those eagle eyed commenters who spotted the missing balustrade that is on it's way from the powder coaters.
