Warning: scammers are using legitimate licensed locksmith business names to trick the public.

The scammers use a legitimate business’s name but link through to their own website and trick customers into engaging scam locksmith services.

A locksmith, possibly unlicensed, will show up to the job, often damaging the lock, and threatening the customer into paying excessive fees.

Warning signs:

1. The business name on your search engine MUST match the website URL
2. Look for a Master licence number on the website BEFORE contacting them
3. Only allow a licensed locksmith to complete your job and ask to see their licence when they turn up.
4. Be wary of anyone demanding cash.

Bec had just moved to Australia from New Zealand and locked herself out of her house and was charged an exorbitant $954 to get back inside. She said she knew something was off when the person she called arrived, and she was scared he was going to completely destroy the lock. She still feels traumatised by the experience.

Do you know an electrician, or other tradie, that also installs CCTV cameras or security alarm systems? Tell them they need to hold a 2C (Security Equipment Specialist) licence to do so! Its been a while since i have seen a Lockwood Macquarie, this tenant reported that he had no keys to this lock & the screen door.

We tackled this job with ease, rekeyed the Lockwood to his existing screen door key & installed a new screen cylinder in the screen door as well.

He was stoked that he wouldn't have to carry extra keys as we matched to existing.
