Prep and undercoating this cottage verandah is done on all the main weather facing surfaces and most of the inner surfaces. The steps will be given special treatment, by removing the paint and prepping for coating with decking oil, which will be a better option for protection from the elements, with seep cracks i the timber allowing moisture in, which will remain trapped by any paint membrane which, will encourage rotten timber.

We managed to get most of the cottage's weather facing verandah post and rail surfaces prepped and undercoated, whilst having a break from the wet windy weather that was delaying the project, in classic blustery Tassie style!... This wkend weather forecast is looking good again, so another one on the scraper/sander and brush.

Such bright and sunny weather last week allowed HP to continue the next section of the verandah we initially started last Autumn on this almost completed Interior/Exterior country cottage renovation. This timber work is an example of where past painting was done without adequate prep, so now the old paint is not stable, therfore it requires plenty of elbow grease... Scraping to remove paint that initially looks ok, then heavy sanding, providing a more stable, reliable surface for the fresh paint to adhere to, then provide sufficient protection from the elements into the future.

The initial colour test patches on this door which were paler than desired, however the effort was not wasted with spontaneous requests for painted effects on a display box frame and planter... Fun creative muscle memory moments! :)
The door was painted with a darker based paint, which gives a refreshing solid splash of colour amongst the shades of grey previously painted.

During this cottage renovation. we were asked to remove the wallpaper, which was done with hot water, then the paint off the ceder paneling, using PRECISION Coatings Remover, then further prep, undercoating followed by top coats. Great to be able to see the place with furniture in, what a great transformation!

This verandah area had areas of paint missing after shrubs were removed, the solution; Scraping, sanding, oil based prep paint with acrylic top coat,

A straight forward job in a great location!
The briefing: Paint the timber verandah posts & rails in black and apply a water based product to the deck, with as little prep as pos.
Process & Products: Scrape/Sand the posts & rails, apply Oil based 1 Step Prep primer sealer undercoat, then top coated with black acrylic Weathershield.
The deck was coated with Ultradeck in "Merbau" colour after using the recommended prep wash.

Some pics of a recent Plaster Repair Job patching numerous holes from switches/lights being upgraded and moved, also some heat ducting vents were closed over.
*Plasterboard inserts were cut/fastened, then Base Plaster & Fiberglass mesh tape were used to patch the joins.
*Another layer of Base Plaster
*Topping Plaster applied to smooth things off, then sanded with an electric pole sander attached to a vacuum, with undercoated then applied.

This place was recently renovated with a number of additions, painting of the newly installed surfaces was started by the customer, however we were asked to continue the job, which was done largely during the last few months when able with the unpredictable weather.
Most of the surfaces were ok, however some of the timber & cement sheeting are examples of why best to paint top coats onto the undercoat without delay!
