Visited the Ballina Community Garden today. This was the most social garden so far. So many stopped to chat on my walk around. To sum it up, they had a working bee last Saturday afternoon to prepare for a harvest Sunday breakfast the next day. After working in the garden all day an impromptu Saturday afternoon bbq was arranged followed by an evening by the garden fire with all the members. Needless to say the Sunday breakfast was postponed.

In Grafton today celebrating Jacaranda Festival. I said to a local ‘must be great to live here at this time of year’. Response ‘Meh….Jacarandas mean storm season and it blows the petals of the trees and makes the streets mushy’.

Braved the flood damaged roads to get to the Kyogle Community Garden this week. Was worth the trip to this small but nurturing little space. Recommend Kyogle Bakery for anyone searching for old school bakery delights.

Found this guy hiding in the seedling trays today. Perons Tree Frog - they change colour and have a croak that sounds like a ‘maniacal laugh’. More info at https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/plants-and-animals/perons-tree-frog

Harvesting Jolly Roger Corn today. An Australian heirloom, so easy to grow and super sweet. Literally put seedling in ground in Summer and did nothing else but pick 2-3 cobs per stalk. Enough rain not to worry about watering and pest resilient. Ducks eating cobs were a problem though - get in first.
