Laminated Aussie Classics

A true testament of environmental awareness in this early 70's T&G Australian hardwood floor. If you look closely you can see that short pieces of tongue and groove flooring typically thrown to waste have been end grain laminated (glued) at the manufacturers timber mill to provide long lengths of hardwood flooring. Thoughtful systems like this saved lumber felling as well produced timber flooring with unique character. Though during this period of end grain laminating most of the floors laid were covered with carpets and vinyl, it's now we are seeing a trend to sand and polish these amazing floors and expose the natural beauty which has been hidden for half a century.
For me personally I dream of being the lucky person to be blessed to find next one alike.
Pictured are sanded pre-coat, and finished with 3 coats of 2-pac polyurethane gloss estapol.

REPLACE or COVER

It's not always the dream floor hiding under the covers πŸ˜₯

With so many historical homes still in Ipswich and close surrounding suburbs, I thought I'd give some knowledgeable advice to those of you considering ripping up your floor coverings and sanding and polishing the timber floors. It's true that many old floors and particularly old pine floors found in "old Queenslanders" look amazing once polished. Unfortunately and occasionally the structural integrity of the floor boards can be jeopardized to the point the floors just won't take a sanding. Things to look out for are bulk "splitting" and "missing" tongue and groove near the edge of the board (see pics), resulting in a spongy feeling when walking on the boards between joists and potentially at risk of cracking or worse case scenario snapping the board. Another issue to keep an eye out for is "cupping". This presents as high edges and low centre of the floor boards, as is typically a result of previous moisture content. If the cupping is extensive, the boards can not be sanded as too much board removed whilst leveling (rough sanding) will result in "split tongue and groove".

If you find these issues and have your heart set on sanding and polishing your floors, you will need to as a minimum replace the damaged boards, and in some cases the whole floor area to be sanded.

SILKY SATIN wins for it's subtle sheen on this beautiful 1960's spotted gum floor. A big thankyou to my recent Ipswich clients who gave me opportunity to pop back over for a few pictures of my craft. The Urethane Coatings acrylic satin used on this floor is becoming quite a popular choice for those clients wishing to tone down the visual impact of their floors and instead draw people's focus toward other fixings and furnishings. Another option with less LRV (light reflection value) is Acrylic matte which is also trending at the moment.

Another Ipswich hidden gem in this cute early 1900's cottage. The striped entrance floor truly is credit to the quality of build, a gorgeous combination of crows ash (yellow) and iron bark (brown) highlight some classic Australian hardwood species and make a memorable visual impact upon being welcomed into this home. Adjoining the entrance floors and continuing through the cottage is more stunning solid iron bark floors. Coated and finished with Urethane Coatings 2 pack polyurethane gloss estapol highlights colour and grain bringing depth and durability for many years to come. A big thanks to my clients Sean and Helen for giving me the opportunity to sand and polish the stunning historic cottage floors.

A recent local Ipswich project with mixed Aussie hardwoods had even myself in awe of the amazing number of varied species.
With such love for my profession and individuality of every floor I was literally gobsmacked when I made the first pass with the belt sander. What I discovered was more species, colour and varied grain definition on one floor than I have seen in the last two decades. Blackbutt, Brushbox, Jarrah, Grey Ironbark, Red Ironbark, Spotted Gum, Red Gum, Blue Gum, Tallowwood, Turpentine, Rosewood, Crows Ash and Silver Ash all contributing to this stunning floor.
Check out the colours for yourself in my quick walkthrough video.

A big thanks to my clients Rob and Maria for giving me the opportunity to pop back for the walkthrough. πŸ‘

Another timeless work of art exposed in this historic Sadliers Crossing cottage.
A mixed bag of original 6" hoop pine, 4" jarrah and new hoop pine flooring tell quite the story in this old beauty. It's such a buzz bringing Ipswich's old floors to life, though challenging it can be at times, each pass with the belt sander uncovers new tales. Whether it's an old perfume spill stain, a coal iron burn, vinyl join line, a removed wall mark, etc..... they are all unique and individual to the floor being sanded.

A big thanks to Brett and Dean at Lowood for choosing me to transform their tired floors into a work of art.
This 60's classic is in the final stages of renovations, with the kitchen fit out due soon, and a fresh coat of paint on the walls commencing shortly, its sure to look amazing.
The mixture of Aussie hardwood flooring gives great depth and character, and is sure to enhance the overall completed project.

What an amazing week it's been. An absolute pleasure to stumble upon this legendary and rare species of timber. 'Australian Red Cedar' (Toona Ciliata) also known as 'Red Gold', was heavily farmed many years ago, and as a result led to commercial extinction by the beginning of the 20th century. Mainly used for building furniture because of its workable characteristics and stunning grain and colour variations, other uses included side cladding, boat building, and sometimes flooring.
I've sanded many different species of timber floors in my home town of Ipswich, and though all are unique and different, nothing is as rare as the crown jewel of floors 'Australian Red Cedar'. Finished in 'Urethane Coatings' monothane satin, the subtle silky luster accommodates many styles of furnishings and wall colours, as well as being durable for years to come.

Thanks Zara and Mark for giving me the opportunity to play such a big part of your house transformation.

I'm reaching out to my past clients, hoping you can help.

I recently experienced an IT issue that deleted my business website from the internet. Thankfully after 3+ weeks, the website is now back up and running. In the process of it disappearing all off my 5 star reviews have been lost and are not retrievable. As you can imagine I am devastated, as these reviews help potential future customers in making informed choices when choosing reputable and reliable floor sanding businesses.
Please I am asking if you have in the past contracted me to sand and polish your floors, kindly leave a review on Google for me. If you previously had taken the time to leave a Google review, please leave a new one for me, I would truly appreciate it.

1: Google search "floor sanding"

2: scroll down and click on "traditional timber floor sanding"

3: select "reviews"

From there you can give a star rating and a written review.

Thanks you in advance

25 years of wear and tear didn't stop this gorgeous Australian forest reds hardwood floor looking like new after a good sand and 3 coats of 2-pac polyurethane gloss estapol.
Thanks to my Karalee clients for contracting me to rejuvenate the floors, and for their wonderful comments during works and upon completion. Nothing more satisfying than happy customers πŸ™‚
