The Power of Comfrey: A 3-Stage Garden Transformation!
Ever wondered why gardeners call Comfrey “GREEN GOLD”? Here is a little behind-the-scenes look at how Steve & I just recycled a massive harvest of this powerhouse plant to feed our Herb Hub & Edible Estate, while giving its home a major face-lift!
SWIPE THROUGH THE PHOTOS TO SEE THE JOURNEY:
📸 Photo 1 & 2 (The Before - Absolute Jungle Status!)
Look at that explosion of lush green growth! Comfrey has incredibly deep taproots that mine valuable nutrients—like potassium, nitrogen, and calcium—from deep down in the subsoil and store them right in those massive leaves. It was primed and ready for harvest.
📸 Photo 3 (The Harvest & The Slump ): Stripped Back.
We harvested the bulk of the leaves and stems to use as a rich, slow-release “lasagna-layer” mulch under the soil in our other garden beds (including our prolific habanero chilis!). Stripping it back clearly exposed how much the soil had naturally slumped and compacted over the last 12 months—a common sight with deep, raised corrugated beds!
📸 Photo 4 (The Finished Product ) Fresh & Rejuvenated!
The ultimate payoff! We topped the raised bed right back up to the brim with fresh, nutrient-rich soil to give the comfrey roots a brand-new playground. To finish it off beautifully, we capped it with a fresh layer of premium Cyprus pine mulch to lock in the moisture.
Not only did we get a massive supply of organic, free fertilizer for the rest of the garden, but the comfrey bed is now perfectly primed to bounce back and produce its next golden harvest.

I had two of these Beefsteak Tomatoes remaining from this year’s incredibly tasty harvest, and instead of eating them, I decided to save the seeds
After natural fermentation, washing, separating and drying, I now have around 200 seeds laid out ready for next season! 🤯

Nature is honestly incredible . . .
One tomato today can become an entire harvest tomorrow!

I think I may have officially crossed over from gardener . . . to full-blown Seed Hoarder.

Every actual image in this visual guide is from my own real-life seed saving process here at The Well Within

👑 ALL HAIL MY COMFREY KINGDOM 👑

What started as a handful of sleepy roots sitting forgotten in a tub . . . . has officially transformed into this lush green powerhouse!

This beauty is now bursting with life here after months of layering, watering, waiting, hoping . . . and a little bit of my garden magic.

And the best part?
This is the very Comfrey I hand harvest and steep myself to create my handcrafted Comfrey Healing Oil - the main ingredient used in my Comfrey Healing Balm💚

From garden . . to steeping jar . . to balm jar ✨
Every batch begins right here in the Comfrey Kingdom.

For anyone wondering why gardeners love Comfrey so much:
🌿 Natural Compost Booster
🌿 Amazing chop-and-drop Mulch
🌿 Pollinator Friendly Flowers
🌿 Traditionally used in Infused Oils & Balms
🌿 Basically the Overachiever of the Plant World 😂

Safe to say . . . the Comfrey Kingdom is no longer a kingdom.

It’s a WHOLE EMPIRE 👑🌿

These Beefsteak tomatoes were hands down the absolute nicest, juiciest tomatoes I have ever grown or eaten . . . so I’m making sure they live on!

Right now, I’m fermenting the seeds in a jar for a few days to break down their natural gel coating. It looks a little 'Mad-scientist' at the moment, but in a couple of weeks, they’ll be dried, prepped, and ready for next season's patch.

SEED SAVING - the ultimate garden lifecycle!
Anyone else saving their absolute favorites this year?
