The Upholstery Workroom is a professional workroom/studio, set in the beautiful valley of Jamberoo on the NSW south coast, about a 2.5hr drive from Sydney. We specialise in small, very friendly, group workshops in upholstery and lampshade-making - and cater to all levels from beginner to advanced. We have a growing range of workshops which offer a choice of making your own new furniture, or shade,

or making-over your existing item. All our workshops are run in a Covid safe environment, are focussed on providing a productive as well as fun time with us - and all include freshly home-made yummies for morning or afternoon tea.

Meet the Laggan Lamp -
‘Bridgerton meets Aussie Squattocracy’

I recently added this stunning antique lamp to my collection, and after replacing its fly-spotted old shade with this much more appropriate one, and getting the electrics tested and tagged, it is now set for its next chapter in a new home.

It’s on display at Handmade Canberra market today (Sunday 14th June) and available for purchase. If the fancy-pants gold-tasselled shade is a too OTT for you, there’s also a more subdued version in a pale blue check, and no tassels in sight.

Why the ref to squattocracy?
Well this lamp was part of an estate sale on a grand old property at Laggan NSW. I would dearly love to see the other furnishings in the homestead, and I hope you’ll forgive my use of AI to help me imagine how it might have looked in its last home.

The doors open at EPIC Canberra at 10am.
I don’t think I’ll be taking this one home with me.

I’m back at this terrific market with a whole batch of new shades and for the first time, a range of stunning vintage lamps I’ve been collecting - all tested and tagged (some with new cloth covered cables). These are true originals and I’ve had a lot of fun making great shades to suit.
Come and see me if you can - on the southern end of the Burrawang Pavilion.
In addition to a huge choice of makers’ art and craft from around Australia, there’s fabulous food and drink in the adjacent pavilion.

if you've ever fancied learning this super-special style of shade-making, where there is fabric on both the INSIDE as well as the outside of the shade, this is your chance (sydney-siders 😉).
You can place your 2 fabrics in any configuration you choose - the only limit is your imagination!
EVERYTHING is supplied except fabric; detailed notes will be sent on what to bring.
A few spots left in this fun class in THE BEST workshop venue in Sydney - you'll love it!

DAY 3 of Handmade Canberra was a ripper - making the whole market my best success. These pics are a mix of a few of the lovely customers (some repeats!) and stallholders I bought from … I now have a fabulous new dress from the incredible seamstress (in purple dress), a delightful top from Robyn and earrings to match both 🤩 from . This is a really well-run market and the vibe is extraordinary - quite impossible not to buy from other stallholders who holders because it’s such a great community. If I didn’t see you there this time, I hope you might make it to another - they’re held quarterly, with the next one March 20/21st.
