Well ol Leo had his work cut out for himself today. Lawns hadn’t been cut for over 2 months and in this climate that equates to a jungle. But the Hustler ride on mower slashed it down and the Bushranger mower picked it up leaving it the best looking lawn in the street.

It was another massive week, with the rain and humidity, it’s prime growing conditions. But just like the saying “summer bodies are made in winter” the same is true for a great lawn. The work I put into my own lawn during the winter and spring months has served me well. Quality fertiliser, broadleaf herbicide and scalping and top dressing has the lawn looking a treat. This work combined with a application of acelepryn will see my lawn also grub free for the next 6 months. So if you want your lawns summer body get in contact with Leo in winter.

Before Xmas things were pretty crazy, but everyone got their property mowed and garden tidied up. We also had a massive property makeover to do. We did this during the extreme heat 2 weeks before Xmas. So our break between Xmas and New year was well deserved. Check out the before pics and after video. If something is worth doing it's worth doing properly. This garden clean up and mulch was done in a manner to prevent more ongoing headaches for the customer. First step was to hand pull the w**ds, then apply a good quality herbicide to the grass. After leaving it for 2 weeks for the herbicide to do its thing the next step was to apply a pre emergent to make sure nothing new sprouts. Finally a nice thick covering of mulch and this customer will have a garden that will continue to look great with minimal upkeep. And that's what we all want in a garden. 🤗

As I've mentioned before, I use my yard to figure out what herbicide/insecticide/fertilizer works best before I'll use it on a client's.

My latest test was using a broad spectrum herbicide to deal with w**ds in my couch lawn. This part of my lawn is not watered or fertilized so the grass is in average at best condition. One side was left alone and the other had " bow and arrow" applied. But you can't just spray this herbicide on, it needs to be applied with a surfactant to make it stick and also the droplet size must correct. I have this process nailed.

The results- one side w**d free and looking neat, the other side overrun with w**ds, looking untidy and needing a mow. All of this achieved from 1 application.

My lawn is like a patchwork quilt. One section was just watered, another had fertiliser applied, the last was scalped, top dressed and fertilized with a special fert. And you should see my backyard. One side is getting w**d treatment and the other isn't. The up shot of this is I know what works, not because I read it on a brochure but through experience. This time of year it's difficult to keep your grass green right?
Wrong!

Select the correct mix of fertilizer and the correct way of delivering it to the grass and you can get results.
A liquid fertilizer high in iron is perfect for this time year. Applied monthly over the cold period and then changing to a slow release granular fertilizer when things warm up ensures a great looking lawn. To highlight the effects check out the pics of where I stopped applying the fertilizer at the customers boundary line.
