ENDURING ARCHITECTURE AWARD

We are delighted that the CBH Building received the 2024 Richard Roach Jewell Award for Enduring Architecture.

DWA Architects were operating as Summerhayes and Associates at the time.

From the Jury:
"...The former CBH Building in West Perth is a fine piece of architecture which received national recognition for the architects, Summerhayes and Associates, when completed in 1968 – receiving the RAIA Bronze Medal.

The building’s planning and approach to passive solar design principles was not only advanced for its time but could well be an exemplar for consideration by young architects today.

The CBH building was Heritage-Listed in 2015, and we are delighted to award it the 2024 Richard Roache Jewell Award for Enduring Architecture."

Year 7 Building (2014)
The Year 7 building was designed to integrate built from with artwork into a seamless response to topography. The building form is in two single-storey sections that intersect and overlap to create the double volume activity space. The split-level design facilitates smooth transition both internally and externally to both levels. The design maximises natural light and connection to nature from all classrooms. The delightful artwork is by Eveline Kotai.

Excellent learning areas supplement the indoor courts, with classrooms and a weights room on the upper level.
The upper level provides a great vantage point over the courts and views beyond, out to the oval. There is a wonderful quality of light in the new gymnasium.
