Kadina's Wet Rock

Kadina's Wet Rock A tribute to the much loved, perennially wet rock in the main roundabout of Kadina. Visited by thousands every day, the Wet Rock, is loved by all.

The premier tourist attraction of the Copper Coast, mystery surrounds it and the wonder of the never ceasing water supply it created.

To do its part in conserving Australia's fuel stocks, Kadina's Wet Rock will be removing its roof racks.

Kadina's Wet Rock was happy to welcome the contestants of the Copper Coast 2021 SA Master's Games this weekend. The Rock had volunteered to hold the archery contest, providing an iconic target to aim at, but eventually a more suitable location was provided at South Terrace. Well done to all competitors, especially in the 70+ age group. Keep rockin' on !

People came out in droves this public holiday to honour Kadina's most valued icon, by donating their most precious shopping list item - the much sort after dunny paper. The Rock thanks everyone for their concern for its welfare but would much rather see the toilet paper where it belongs - on the shelves of supermarkets!

Kadina's Wet Rock was happy to welcome the first cruise ship - The Vasco Da Gamma to the Copper Coast today; however, some passengers may have been disappointed as to the actual size of the famous rock and not being able to climb it as they had been in training for on their journey. With the culling of the teddy bears from the fence on the Copper Coast Highway , the Wet Rock offers its commiserations to all who loved the display. There is no truth in the rumour that the rock itself is going to sculptured into a teddy bear shape in lieu of the fence.

Kadina’s Wet Rock sincerely apologises for the formation of so many zebra crossings in the town. The initial plan was for the provision of a few opportunities around the town where pedestrians could safely stop and admire the Rock from a distance; however, one overzealous fan of the Wet Rock got rather carried away with its awe, and so painted crossings everywhere in homage to the Rock. The Wet Rock is aware that this is causing concerns for drivers of vehicles with the frequent stopping places, including at junctions, just so that people can admire its beauty. This was never the Rock’s intention!

Carvings of an ancient maypole found on Kadina's Wet Rock!
Visitors to the 2019 Kernewek Lowender were amazed to find that the origin of maypole dancing in the Copper Coast was in fact to celebrate our own auspicious Wet Rock. In bygone years, local school children would dance around the rock each May. After time there were too many children to fit around the rock so that poles were set up around it to dance around instead. This soon caught onto the surrounding towns of Moonta and Wallaroo so that now the Kernewek Lowender honours this tradition each festival on Fridays and Saturdays in Moonta and Kadina.
