Bailey has been tilling the walking rows in the field yesterday and today!
Getting the drone into the air today we can see where he has been and where he is yet to do!
We have had some good rains in the past month and taking the drone out into the paddocks we can see each dam has a little bit of water. Pictured is the dam that we irrigate from for the gardens by solar water pump when water is sufficient. We haven't had water in the dams in 3 years. It is a nice sight to see but we need a lot more water in the dams to be beneficial for our watering needs in Summer.💜💜💜

☀️ Bloom of the Week #2 – Spanish Holiday ☀️

As winter begins and the garden settles into its quieter season, this week's bloom has us dreaming of the warmer days to come.

Spanish Holiday is a cheerful variety that brightens the garden with its warm, vibrant tones. Looking back through photos of blooms like this is a wonderful reminder that spring is never as far away as it seems.

While we wait for the next flowering season, we're enjoying revisiting some of our favourite irises and sharing them with you through our Bloom of the Week series.

What's helping you get through the winter garden lull?

🌿 Stay tuned for next week's Bloom of the Week feature.

Today Bailey, Ariana and myself joined Social outing to , where we thoroughly enjoyed the company of the members on guided tours of the house and surrounding gardens.
Our company was amazing and gosh this property is divine!
We did notice Tall Bearded and Spuria Iris in the gardens. Here are a few Spuria in our gardens which are going to be transplanted in the next few weeks!

A beautiful sunny morning spent spraying weeds around the property, Lunch date with hubby coming home to Denny sweaty, muddy, trying to sit and roll, presenting with colic. I had other plans for the afternoon weeding.....
Horse with colic on a Sunday (public holiday weekend) and then to try and get a vet out....fun times!
Forgive me but I am a mentally exhausted....
The sunset was amazing tonight which made everything worthwhile while I am watching my horse come out of sedation. I love a good sunset view. 💜💜💜

One of the things we enjoy most about this time of year is seeing the first poppy seedlings beginning to emerge throughout the garden beds.

Over the past few weeks we've noticed more and more of these tiny seedlings appearing amongst the irises, a welcome reminder that spring colour isn't too far away.

Many poppies naturally germinate during the cooler months, taking advantage of winter rainfall and lower temperatures before putting on a spectacular display of flowers in spring.

Keep an eye on your garden beds, you may be surprised by what starts popping up over winter!

Have you noticed any self-sown flowers emerging in your garden yet? We'd love to hear what's appearing in your patch.

Bailey and myself are hybridizers of Bearded Iris.
We import bearded iris rhizomes to Australia to expand genetic possibilities for our hybridisation and to introduce modern, new-release varieties to Australian gardeners.
Next seasons catalogue is going to be huge. There will be a lot of new to Smokin Heights varieties being offered.
Exciting times ahead! 💜💜💜

Variety is the spice of life or isn't it??

This saying relates quite easily to Bearded Iris.

With their astonishing diversity of colours, heights, blooming times, and patterns that can magically transform any garden.

Do you have a colour palette in your garden or does the colours all compliment one another?

Ranging in height classes the bloom season can be extended for months!

Then don't forget that each height class there own bloom time, early, mid or late too.

We reckon this Spring will offer great motivation to spice things up in your own gardens with some Bearded Iris varieties!! 💜💜💜

Ruffles dance across the beds at Smokin Heights,
Bringing layers of pure joy and sweet delights.
From the softest blush of pink to violet shades,
A vibrant tapestry of colour that never fades.
Deepest black and royal purple join the show,
Setting every garden border right aglow.
Frilly petals catching every passing breeze,
Swirling gently beneath the summer trees.
If you love a textured, velvet, folded crown,
This is truly the finest spot in town.
Come and lose yourself inside the ruffled sea,
Where every blossom blooms in luxury.

We look forward to welcoming you to Spring 2026 💜💜💜
