The Native Gardener

The Native Gardener FB page for Wheatbelt Native Gardens (WNG) in Kellerberrin. Western Australia's native flora is truly unique, both on a World scale and within Australia.

Here at The Native Gardener, we believe that improved knowledge of and a deeper understanding for our native species begins through their propagation & horticulture. The Native Gardener also works to develop the practical application of our WA native species via native gardens and through native verge conversions and / or other associated social endevours. We're big on biodiversity and localised e

cology around here too, particularly where local species are conerned. And of course, the use of our WA native species for cultural purposes by the Noongar Nation (and beyond) is something The Native Gardener has a distinct and personal connection to. So welcome on board and please do the like / follow thing as well :)
Freely sharing Kaartdijin is what's it's all about.

15mm of rain in the last 24 hours is certainly welcome here in the Central WA Wheatbelt.
And it means of course that you'll be eager to get out into your Wheatbelt gardens this weekend and plant some of our lovely Wheatbelt Native Gardens tubestock !
Even though it's forecast to be just 1 degree at 7.00am tommorrow morning, I will as always fling open the back gate at 8.00am for weekend retail sales and do the same on Sunday.
The diversity of species on offer continues to be highly varied and here's just a selection.
No, this is NOT everything on offer, it's just a selection;
𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐬 - nice fresh laxiflora & hamata, plus a smorgasbord incl. fulgens, fulgens sub.steedmanii and a selection in super tubes too.
𝐄𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐬 - just a total smorgasbord as always here.
𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬 - numbers are good for stenophylla, denticulata, saxicola. Some others here.
𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐬 - some cracking denticulosa sandpaper wattles on offer, plus redolens, acuaria and more.
𝐇𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐬 - orthorrhyncha and laurina in small numbers. Minyma also.
𝐄𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐬 - Lots of variety here including campaspe, york gums, salmon gums, erythronema, stoatei, krusena, caesia, sargentii sub.onesis, formanii, gross, tenera, stricklandii and more.

I don't know why folks are so down on Melaleucas.
The Wheatbelt and surrounding regions has some stunning Melaleucas and here at Wheatbelt Native Gardens in Kellerberrin we have a growing range of them (nice pun that !).
And with the rains now soaking the central WA Wheatbelt, there's no better time to head for our retail benches this weekend and grab a few Mels or their cousins like callistemon, kunzea etc.
As always, Sat & Sun down the back lane from Price street, 8.00am to 3.00pm.
Watch for the street signs, check Google maps etc.
Here's a few stunning Melaleucas for any Wheatbelt garden or project site.

Gorgeous juvenille Western Brown (Pseudonaja Genus). Note the dark mark around the nape that is distinctive for youngsters.

Another weekend of retail is coming and there's no shortage of Eucalyptus choice here at Kellerberrin's Wheatbelt Native Gardens.
Fresh stocks are heading onto the retail benches and that includes both forestry tubes and super tubes.
Not all Eucs are huge monsters, so come and chat to us about the smaller mallee species that make fantastic garden specimens.
Remember, retail opens Sat & Sun 8.00am to 3.00pm.
Access down the rear lane from Price street, watch for the street signs and check Google maps.

Another nice order departing Kellerberrin's Wheatbelt Native Gardens (WNG) in the morning.
This one of about 150 plants once again showcases what WNG is all about - small quantity, local / regional species and lots of variety.
Mainly Eucs, this order also features Acacia acuminata with a couple of Hakea species added in for good measure.
I can still take orders at this time, although if you're after specific species there might be a wait until about August.
Of course there's always weekend retail with a continued smorgasbord and on-going variety normal.

Always in a rush, never seem to have enough time, so just smashed this out in Word for the weekly round of buy-sell-swap as prep' for weekend retail.
What's weekend retail ?
Oh come on !
Wheatbelt Native Gardens opens for public sales every Sat & Sun 8.00am to 3.00pm.
Down the back lane from Price street, Kellerberrin, watch for the street signs, check Google maps etc.
And why wouldn't you come grab our quality tubestock this weekend with all the rain coming.
And yes, even if it is bucketing down on Sunday, that back gate will be open and I'll be standing in the rain getting soaked along with me plants 😀

Really neat to see our Wheatbelt Native Gardens (WNG) tubestock being planted by The Shire of Tammin this morning.
We've worked hard to encourage and foster Wheatbelt Shire engagement with WNG and there's quite a few now jumping on board with us to enhance biodiversity and to brighten up their towns - not forgetting in-town canopy cover with our well choosen Wheatbelt Native Gardens super tube Eucs.
This particular Shire of Tammin order comprised 150 shrubs / groundcovers with 20 trees.
Just the perfect size of order for our humble operation 😁

Threw these pix of some of our juvenille Eucs up on another page, so figured I should chuck 'em up on my own page !
The variety of Eucs being grown at Kellerberrin's Wheatbelt Native Gardens just keeps....well...growing.
Juvenilles aside, I've got quite a selection of larger Eucs in super tubes and olive pots ready to go and with rain on the way, why wouldn't you head for weekend retail on Sat' & Sun' !?
