Wanting to renovate your home?

One thing we often hear when a client approaches us is - When can you start? We want to begin ASAP!

Unfortunately with most cases it just isn't possible. Renovations usually include structural changes and with that you need council approval (which can take up to 6 months or even more). Hearing this usually leaves the client frustrated and unhappy.

How to avoid disappointment when wanting to renovate 🛠

- Seek expert advise: Write down as many questions you can think of and contact a builder. They know the ins and outs of the process and the right builder would happily answer your questions.

- Set a realistic schedule: Begin the process well in advanced. And be prepared for the process to take several months before construction begins. It can take even longer pending on the builder you choose as some can be booked out 6 months to a year advanced.

- Know your budget: Speak to a builder about your ideas and your budget. A builder will be able to estimate straight away whether it is achievable.

- Decide on a design style: It will help you with your choice of materials and fixtures. The sooner you know these, the sooner the builder can get you a quote and a start date.

NOT PLANNING YOUR BUDGET!

The single biggest mistake consumers make when renovating their home is when they either understate their budget or refuse to set one.

Before you speak to anybody, you need to know your budget. Know what you can afford and what you would like to spend.
Once you have decided on a budget, it's in your best interest to share this information with everyone involved in the design process.

When designing your bathroom...

Allow the layout to create a sense of calm. Make sure to allocate enough space for each functional area. If you want a freestanding bathtub, for example, but don't have sufficient space for it, the tub will look hemmed in, and the aesthetics of the room will suffer.
ALSO
Avoid making the toilet the focal point of the bathroom, let the vanity or freestanding tub be the first piece you see when you enter the room✨
