Men In White are proud to announce that we won two awards, and had one highly commended project at the annual Master Painters Awards for Excellence 2020.

We were also finalists in two other categories – iconic building and extreme preparation.

Wylie's Baths, Neptune St, Coogee have reopened!

Men in White was thrilled to paint this iconic building – the facility dates back to 1907, the structure that was painted is from 1995 when it was rebuilt.

Normally, the pools are open every day of the year. In June, the Baths were closed for refurbishment. Men in White was engaged to prepare and paint the panel ballustrade on the main deck. See Wylie's Baths post 100+ Days of Repairs & Maintenance.

The proximity to the ocean meant that the surfaces had to be pressure washed and then mopped every day to remove salt. The exposed hardwood timber was sanded back and washed with Intergrain UltraPrep Tannin/Oil Remover and Intergrain Timber Reviver.

All the work was done safely from the deck. We installed a static line and rope system. When washing and preparing we captured debris from washing with a specially constructed apron.

Men in White are proud to be finalists for the Marrickville Medal for Conservation 2020.

We preserved and painted an 1886 historic Victorian house using Porter’s mineral paints that allow the wall to breathe. The inspiration for the colours was provided by the historic University of Sydney Institute building.

The job required extensive surface preparation and repairs.

The client was delighted with the result.

We prepared and painted a free standing 7 storey Strata building in Surry Hills in 2010. We used a combination of access methods: abseiling, scaffold and swinging stage. We washed the masonry and applied a coat of solvent sealer and two finish coats of Dulux Elastomeric. The project required a high level of communication with residents and special attention to the pedestrians on the busy street below. [ 26 more words ]

We recently did remedial work on office doors in Crows Nest. The Colour was Dulux Deep Reed Gloss Aquanamel. The existing adhesion was not optimal, and the paint was chipping around the handles to expose the sound white undercoat. We removed the unsound top coating with an orbital sander attached to a vacuum, applied a grey undercoat (Zinsser Low Odour Oil… [ 84 more words ]

MIW recently completed a remedial painting project for a Strata Building in Darlinghurst. The wet walls were suffering from salt damage and causing the paint to peel off and look unsightly. MIW followed the specification from Barrie Cooper of Westox to solve the problem. The solution was to strip the failed coating with a non-caustic citrus stripper Delam 100. [ 68 more words ]
